As hard as Chapman throws, that ball had to have some serious speed on it off the bat. Pray he is OK

Scary stuff. Some day they are going to have as much armor as the pitchers can wear out there. Full face mask, football like helmets. Taking a shot of the leg sucks, taking one of the temple is deadly.

Hope he's alright, keep us posted please.

Yea pitchers are gonna have to start wearing padded caps or something. This could kill somebody. Hopefully not Chapman

Chapman's father was also in attendance apparently... I don't think I really want to think about being in his shoes right now.

Chapman suffered laceration above left eye, Price said. Never lost consciousness and was talking, moving #reds

Laceration above the left eye, if it means directly above, at least indicates the ball missed his temple.

Talking and moving and remaining conscious are obviously good signs.

A concussion is a near certainty. Those are tough to judge in terms of recovery time and lasting impact (personally, not just professionally). The other question is whether or not there's a fracture and any further associated damage.

I hope he's alright. There's not much time to react when you throw that hard.

I don't think Brandon McCarthy ever lost consciousness when he got hit. He almost died.

Wishing the Cuban Missile the best. Saw him pitch one night at Petco.

Salvador Perez is apparently crying in the locker-room. Was on the mound praying too. Feel bad for the guy... That has to be just awful. Teammates booted the reporters out of there... Good

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal More Smith on Chapman: “Usually guys turn their head a little bit. This was like getting punched right in the face. It was straight on.”

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
Former pitcher and #Mets scout Roy Smith, who was sitting behind home plate when #Reds’ Chapman got hit: “As bad as I’ve seen.”
