My Grandfather always disliked AP, I get the feeling there was a reason since they ran in the same social circles for years...Always wish I got the story behind it...

Heard a quote years ago that I thought was spot on.

"Jack will always be respected, but Arnie will always be loved."

I watched a 3 part series on Arnold Palmer a few years ago. Not sure if it was on the history channel or the golf channel, but it was outstanding and I highly recommend it.

He was a tough SOB. I am hoping this motivates Team USA this week and they start kicking some ass.

I caught some of that a week or two ago on the golf channel. It freaked me out a bit at the time, because I thought it was in memoriam. Sadly, it wasn't far off.

What an amazing life he led. One of my cherished memories with my grandfather was following around in Arnie's Army when he played in Rochester.

Just look at how much the young guys cared for Arnie. Heard some stories about how a couple of the big name young guys couldn't make it to his tournament because of a conflict in schedule and they flew out to tell him in person instead of just calling, emailing, texting or whatever other way. They wanted to make sure he knew that they would be there if they could. When guys a 1/3rd of his age respect/love him that much you know the guy has made a huge impact on the game.

Yep, I've heard that...Jack is a son of a dentist, a blue blood and although Arnie's dad was a club pro/greenskeeper, he indentifed with the blue collar folk of western PA.

More outgoing than Jack.

The documentary on Palmer's life is a good investment of time.

Probably signed more autographs than anyone in sports & made it a pt to ensure that his signature was always legible. True class.

Today Jim Nance said "His autograph is worthless because there are so many out there. He never said no and took the time to write the signature out rather than just scribble like some guys".

A true man of the people regardless of how much money he made. Probably the first athlete to have his own "brand".
