I used to train in bjj and muay thai but that was a couple years ago. I am getting back into it now, anyone else?

I've thought about it...I used to box a little bit, so if I do anything it would probably be getting back into boxing

Worked out this morning, trying to help my friend get down to 170, this is his first pull to that weight, he has been fighting at 185, has a fight for Bellator on the 28th in Florida, so we have a couple weeks to get down.

the way fighters and wrestlers cut weight baffles me, it cant be healthy...at least your buddy has a few weeks, but these guys who drop like 15 pounds in 2 days....fuck that

Try to be about 7-8 lbs over 48 hours to weigh in, like I said this is his first cut to 170, so it will be more gradual, drop 2-3 lbs a day. Be around 177-178 by the time he gets on the plane to Florida.

Haha. He is a funny dude, drank beers with him one night when he was a guest for a local fight in Tulsa...I think I made a thread about it here on the Hoop.

It's a good workout and pretty fun too.

This is actually a pretty great workout. I do it all the time.

I have trained Muay Thai, Boxing, BJJ, Wushu, JKD, and Capoeira. My friend used to own a school so I got to go to everything for free and I basically lived there. I trained 6 days a week and on saturdays first class was 8am and the last one was 8pm. It was pretty intense, but I was in incredible shape. Now I just stick to Muay Thai and still mess around with grappling. I fucked up my back so I have really slowed down lately waiting on surgery. Can't wait to get back into it.. no pun intended.

I train in MMA with a Judo and Jujitsu base. Dropping 10 pounds is easy over night...epson salt bath, fan, epson salt bath, fan....go to bed. Your body is 70% water. I'm 5'7 175-180 when I'm bulking, gradually get down to under 165 with strict diet...start heavy cutting down to under 155 1 to 2 weeks before a fight...fight at 145. It is a must to be competitive. It would be nice if there was a way for the governing bodies to eliminate water weight loss by issuing more weigh ins and have everyone fight closer to their normal weight but they don't. Some say immediate pre-fight weigh ins(instead of the day before) is an easy answer but its really not. What you would have is guys dying in the ring from dehydration. It is what it is.

Yeah, there is no way they can have weigh ins the day of a fight. Like you said...too many health problems. I don't think it is a problem in the sport right now though. Bigger guys have to put in the work to drop so much weight so if they can do it...good for them. It is really straining on some guys and it affects the fight for some. There is a give and take with the huge drops.

I use to train and fight at Amateur Super Heavyweight but I got old and my body couldn't take it anymore so I retired.

I trained a bit of BJJ just to know what it feels like since my daughter does it...now my daughter...THAT mofo trains. I plan to get back to it once my budget and gimp shoulder wants to cooperate again.

She competed today and took 3rd NoGi and 1st in Gi in 10 yr old beginners (1-2 yrs exp) at the Copa event in Lakeland, FL.
