I agree, and to be honest I'm not sure why he thinks it's his best shot to win a Cup next year. Detroit is kind of in a transition phase.

I hear the Leafs are favourites. Not sure where I heard it though.

I think the Wings would have beat Boston had they won that game 7 vs. Chicago. I don't know if Alfredson will make the difference, but they weren't bringing Fillpula back (I liked him) and Weiss is coming off a wrist injury. I like the one year stop gap approach as Weiss works his way back.

It sure feels wrong to me. I'm still kind of shocked. Just some notes:

-Alfie was a FA and free to do whatever he wanted. This kind of came out of left field though. Best of luck to the guy; he's earned the right to play wherever he wants.

-Detroit is a bit of an odd choice. They are a good team but I wouldn't place them in the favourite category. I'd say they are in a slightly better spot than Ottawa (without Alfie) but not by much. Now that they are in the same division I guess we'll find out rather quickly.

- I don't think Alfie is a $5.5 M player anywhere but in Ottawa where he is a brand. He still gives it all and still thinks the game at an elite level but he doesn't have the explosiveness he used to, or the wheels. He scored 26 points in 47 games last year with all the prime PP and offensive minutes. I think Detroit might have overspent.

- So long and happy trails to one of my favourite players of all-time. I hope you do well Alfie and thanks for all the years of great service. Keep your head up when Neil is on the ice.

That's very possible, but they didn't. Ifs and buts are great, but they lost in the second round.

I liked Flip too, but the guy just isn't worth $5m a year. He's got the potential to be a great second line two way center, but right now he's just not productive enough offensively.

I think Alfredsson is a perfect fit in Detroit. They love veterans. I hope signing Alfredsson doesn't mean Tatar Tots has to spend another year in the AHL though.

i could see tatar being part of a trade to bring in top pairing defensman

Ya why the redwings go to a boston, Kings or Blackhawks! He wanted the money if he wanted a cup he should have signed with the blackhawks for 1 million dollars.

Another easy thing that could have swayed him to Detroit is all the Swedes that play for the Wings...

I don't think it's him going to Detroit that's wrong, it's him leaving the Sens that just doesn't sit right. Gonna be strange to see him play for another team, really personified Sens hockey for decades.
