From Kawikami, who had an interview with Sabes:

Sabean isn't looking at any of this with champagne-colored glasses; he's frustrated, he's trying to figure out a way out of this; and he has long since realized that this "haywire" season might be one the Giants just have to accept... and start planning to move on from.

and

QUESTION: With the situation you've got, without showing a lot lately, do you just have to ride it out with what you've got?

SABEAN: We have to ride it out. The team has to play better for us to move forward. If we don't start playing better -- the team at hand especially the lineup itself -- there's not enough help in the world that's going to turn us around from this.

It's that simple.

Here's the whole interview. Sabes doesn't sound too confident, as he shouldn't. He's basically saying don't look for anything drastic at the trade deadline, buying or selling wise. He doesn't think we are one player away, and he also doesn't want to harm 2014 and beyond.

I understand that Sabes likes to act more like the trophy wife (buy everything he can) than the used-car salesman, but I think we have pieces that can bring back some nice prospects than can help MORE in '14 and beyond.

Why not try to deal Timmeh now instead of watch him walk for nothing? Does he really think that he will increase the gate?

How about Affeldt, Romo and JLo? These are all guys that can fetch nice packages, I imagine, and they are all going to be 1 year older come '14.

I understand not shopping Pence, Scutaro or Creosote. He sees them all as (potential) essential parts of the '14 team.

Belt Hater: "Damn it, Belt. 0-1 in your first taste of he #3 hole. I knew he shouldn't have been given that slot. How is Pill doing?"
