LOL NFC South

With ATL losing, its locked that an NFC South team will make the playoffs no better than .500 and with the way those shit teams have been playing, the winner could make it at 7-9 and its even possible 6-10 could do it.

So, should the NFL make a rule that all playoff teams should be .500 or better? If you're not at .500, you're replaced with the next best team record wise in conference.

No. You don't make a rule based on one bad year for a division especially considering this is only the 2nd time this may happen (depending on if the Saints or Falcons run the table) since they changed the divisions in 2002

no you don't change the rule. As long as we have divisions you have to have a division Champ in the playoffs.

You change the rule when it becomes a trend.

This... Bottom line, you have to take care of business in your division & conference. I don't care if the team has 10 wins and they don't get in. Every game a team should know what is on the line. No sense in complaining when the dust clears.

As a Seahawks fan I can't complain about it.

As a football fan, I also hold the opinion that the system is just fine. It barely happens, and the blame should go to the other teams in the division for not being slightly better than terrible in order to win it.

Besides, if the system were different we wouldn't have one of the greatest runs in playoff history, right bks?!

Taking away their home game is stupid also. If you do that you must take away every division winner home game if their wildcard opponent finishes with a better record.

I wouldn't be completely against this, but I think it's unnecessary. Like you said it really doesn't need to change unless it becomes a trend.

I'm down with that. It's fair to give HFA to the team with the better record. I don't see what's so stupid about it.

I don't want to see the league make a decision because some people get butt hurt as a result of not handling their business and losing their division(s). With that said, they may want to begin discussions about how the playoffs would look if you just dumped all the teams together by conference and went with the 6 best in each. A 10 win playoff team not making it doesn't necessarily feel rare to me, but when 11 win teams don't, that's kinda rough. When you win 69% of the games you play, it just seems like you should have a shot to play in the post season.

Happens too infrequently...knee jerk response to change it...leave it the way it is.

DIV play is the back bone of the NFL...the reward for winning it, needs to stay the same until winning with a losing record becomes a trend.

Win your division, host a playoff game, don't and hope for a WC and go where you have to. The system is very good the way it is.

Sucks to be a 13-3 team and play on the road if you don't win your division. BUT in years where a sub .500 team also makes the playoffs, then it should serve as a great consolation prize to at least play the crappy team on the road. If you lose that game then you wouldn't have done shit in the playoffs anyways.

Teams records are inflated and deflated every year depending on the luck of the draw with your cross-division opponents. If you have have an evenly-matched division and a tough draw, then you may get a sub .500 division winner. But that team may be just as good as a 10+ win team that had a super easy draw, like KC from last year.

they will use this line of thinking to expand the playoff teams (like basketball)
Watch. We will end up with more playoff teams in the future, & they will use years like this as the example for why they are making the change.

No, this would only be the second time it's ever happened.

Besides, my team has to make the Playoffs somehow.

I'll tell you what, of all the NFC South slouches, New Orleans has to be the least desirable matchup for a WC team. Traveling to their dome, it's not inconceivable to think Brees and Jimmy can go off for one game.

I'm sure of only one thing. If the issue comes to the table the decision will be based on only one factor.......what will make the most money for the NFL on that day.

I'm fine with it, really a joke for a team with a sub .500 record to make the playoffs. Better to just have fewer teams make the playoffs tho.
