First of all, opening day pits Ace V Ace. So not uncommon.....

But yeah you are right hitting is down for a lot of reasons.

-No more Juice....or atleast not as many people, (ahem mike trout)
-Shifts are killing averages.
-the cut fastball
-Bullpen power arms, relievers that DONT throw 95 plus are the exception, thats opposite of what it used to be

I dont think the trend is going anywhere. Time to bring on the pitch clock and after that is in place for awhile then look at the game

How would a pitch clock help the offense??

If you want to help offense, ban shifts, or lower the mound

I think the idea of banning shifts is ridiculous. Are fielders going to have X's that they have to stand on until the ball is hit?

Defenses employ shifts only when hitters only hit to one side of the field - they need to learn to go the other way.

"just go the opposite way" is an argument that people use.... also it much easier said then done, pitchers are throwing cut fast balls at the highest rate ever seen in baseball. 95 plus mph with huge movement......batters are struggling to put wood on it, let alone guide it to the oppo field....

Also dont take my posts as saying I think they should ban shifts... I dont think you need to help offense. The shift to lower scoring is helping with game times. But at some point it could be detrimental meaning you'll lose viewor attendance cause your average joe fan thinks pitchers duels are boring..... Im not avg joe baseball fan. I love a well played defensive/pitched game.

I love a well played defensive/pitched game as well but just isn't the same when we see it night after night.

Been a lot of shutouts thus far. More than 1/3 of all games have ended in shutouts. Hopefully this gets corrected soon as I prefer 10-9 to 1-nothing.

Also the weather is crappy still. Plus pitching is usually ahead of hitters every year.... Cano crushed a ball last night that fell in for a double. If it was 70 degrees instead of 40 it goes over fence....
