5-7 teams in bowl games

I thought both teams were at 5-6 before that game. Clearly I thought wrong

I have always thought that a team should be at least 7-4 to even be bowl eligible.
Too many bowls that mean nothing.

As far as extra practice time....let all teams practice as long as the bowl teams are allowed.

Every single game but 3 are meaningless exhibitions.

Every damn one of us on here is going to watch about 20+ bowl games.
Seems silly to complain when we watch them with enthusiasm.

And, The disparity in scheduling makes an arbitrary win number seem irrelevent anyways.

Team A beats 3 cupcake FBS teams, beats 1 FCS team, and then goes 3-5 in an 8 team league.
They are a 7-5 bowl team.

Team B beats 1 cupcake FBS team, loses to 2 FBS, and then goes 4-5 in a 9 team league.
They are a 5-7 bowl team but probably a better team.

I'll be watching whatever bowl game PSU is in, the CFP, Rose Bowl and MAYBE a couple of others. That's it though.

I usually watch the top tier bowls plus whatever bowl Michigan is in (if we're in one) and not much else. I don't see why anyone would want to watch Middle Tennessee take on eastern Washington or whatever the hell those bowls have in them.

Exactly! Before you know it, everyone is playing 13 games, and then it's not such a stretch to add one or two more for a couple of teams who go all the way to the championship.

The biggest barrier to D1-A playoffs has always been the bowls, they've just never figured out how to keep them intact AND have a playoff at the same time.

NFL pre-season games are meaningless exhibitions. Teams aren't seriously gaining anything from it.

To say that CFB teams dont seriously gain anything from bowl games is kind of delusional IMO.

From what I read today if K-State ends up 5-7 Snyder won't exactly be thrilled if they get a bowl invite. And just two weeks ago he so much as said they weren't a good enough team to play in a bowl game.

The kids get paid in swag, pretty much what they truly get from bowl games. People view bowl games differently like they matter so much more than regular season games, but unless it is the playoffs they really don't.

I agree with the East Carolina vs Central Michigan example, but I do not want to see a 5 loss power 5 team playing in a bowl game. I rather a deserving non-power 5 champion getting invited to a bigger bowl that what they originally were intended to go to and giving that conference another bowl slot.

Part of this is the consumer's fault. Two 5-7 teams could be playing and it would probably get better ratings than the two best teams in hockey playing.

I'd absolutely watch the hell out of Texas vs Nebraska! Who needs fewer football games so close to the end of the season.
