I'm nervous about what Hayden has left in the tank but I'm thrilled to see the Steelers make a move!

Somewhat of a bounce-back season last year but still needs to shake that injury bug. Would love to see him start week 1 vs the Browns lolol... But I bet Tomlin will bring him along slowly until he's up to speed. 2 weeks of prep for the 1st game. Not sure how possible that is. Lake & Butler have gone to great extent to simplify the schemes on the back end so he shouldn't have much of an issue picking it up.

Well. They broke the bank. 3 years, 27 million. 9 a year.

Yep, so much for not breaking the bank, but I'm reading that 1st yr is $7mil and CLE is on the hook for $4mil (CH wise) idk if that's true or not, but one thing we do know, the guaranteed money is most likely the '17 season.

I had a good feeling this might happen...PIT has talked with big name CBs in the past and never really offered enough... I think Colbert and Tomlin were on the same page pretty quickly and said let's go get this guy.

What does he have left?...that's the 64,000 question. I think 2 yrs of his current game is a reasonable projection, but to be honest, I'm looking at 2017 right now and I think they got better for 2017 with this deal....imo what this also does is allow Sutton and more so Allen more time to develop...one of them should be ready to take over by '19 if not not before.

I like it!!

So lets talk CB depth chart now @ATL96Steeler ... Who gets the axe? I heard rumors of Gay getting work at FS/SS.

Here's how I'd rank the 12 currently rostered...

1. Burns
2. Haden
3. Cockrell
4. Sensabaugh
5. Hilton
6. Sutton
7. Gay
8. Allen
9. Phillips
10. Dixon
11. Shephard
12. Golson

FWIW... Found this little tidbit on Haden's injury history the past 2 seasons

A concussion essentially took his '15 season which is scary. I don't now if its his first, but one of that magnitude (9weeks before being placed on IR) is awfully concerning.

3. Gay/Hilton, (starting slot)
4. Sensabaugh, (inside/outside next man up)
5. Cockrell, (outside 2nd man up)

6. Hilton/Gay (didn't get the starting slot job)
7. Sutton
8. Allen

I would definitely be on board with this, but put Sutton at 6. Like we said, there's little chance they let their 3rd Rd Pick hit the PS.

Here's a breakdown of contract money for '17 (might help sway the cutting argument)

1. Joe Haden
$3mil base ($4mil from CLE), ? bonus, ? dead
2. William Gay
$2mil base, $633k bonus, $1.266mil dead
3. Ross Cockrell
$1.797mil base, $0 bonus, $0 dead
4. Artie Burns
$886k base, $1.293mil bonus, $2.179mil dead
5. Senquez Golson
$799k base, $292.5k bonus, $585k dead
6. Coty Sensabaugh
$775k base, $212.5k bonus, $425k dead
7. Deshaun Phillips
$615k base, $0 bonus, $0 dead
8. JaCorey Shepherd
$540k base, $0 base, $0 dead
9. Brandon Dixon
$540k base, $0 base, $0 dead
10. Cameron Sutton
$465k base, $184k bonus, $736k dead
11. Brian Allen
$465k base, $57k bonus, $230k dead
12. Mike Hilton
$465k base, $0 bonus, $0 dead

IMO Gay & Cockrell have a pretty big target on their backs with those contracts if they aren't going to be starters. Maybe the Haden signing means an end to Cockrell? I'd rather keep him around for insurance, but if Coty Sensabaugh can play just as good for $1mil less then its a no-brainer to cut ties with Ross.

This in bold is the most logical move.

Haden is being paid starter money. It's him and Burns with Hilton in the slot.

Sutton and Sensabaugh are safe. Beyond that anyone could get cut coming up. But Gay probrably doesn't have to worry/

So that's 6 CB's. Might keep one more.

Yeah, concerning especially after Green, but none in '16, so I'm hoping it was just a one yr thing.

Congrats on a good pick up.

Hope to see the Steelers in the playoffs again.
No better time to see at Pats/Steelers match-up then January.

Of course...it would be even better if there were two teams with 6 Lombardi's.

Thanks, but I think we're good.

I think we could even use a little separation from the rabble up at 7.

Phillips and Shephard are pretty much interchangeably to me. Haden's injuries worry me a lot, however, I think he is now the 3rd best CB on our team. How many CBs do you think they'll keep? 6? Last year they had 5, I'm t hinking with the talent we have at the position, could we do 6 CBs and and 4 SS/FS? If they only go with 5, I have a hard time believing that Sutton will go to the PS, but I also have a hard time believe they chose Sutton over Gay

Injuries aside Haden is better than Cockrell as a man to man or zone defender. But, I do share your concern about Haden's health.

We haven't seen Hilton in a real game yet, so I can respect the spot you ranked him, but the coaches are probably going to have him starting in the slot as early as week 1.

Headcount I'm still not settled on yet...something tells me if Allen has shown them anything on ST they won't try to stash him on the PS....I keep going back to 7 and 4 safety...if the number is 6 Cockrell, maybe Gay, certainly Allen are in trouble.

This is awesome! Finally, this team has 2 very solid CB's for the first time in a long time. Now go get TJ Ward from Denver who was Haden's former teammate and good friend from Cleveland.

I must give the FO credit for finally upgrading at CB even though it should have happened a while ago. We might just have something special with this team, this season. HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
