Want a crazy statistic? If Sale wins his next and final start before the break. He will be just barely under the pace for 30 wins. I know wins are considered an antiquated statistic, but that's pretty amazing. He obviously won't reach 30, but 25-26 could be in reach.

So much good young pitching in the game nowadays, the Cy Young race should be unreal for a while. Not so long ago, he would have been a no brainer.

BANG

4 series wins in a row. Two winnable ones to wrap up the first half at home, versus NYY and ATL.

Let's get a sweep in one of them, eh?

Watch... we'll drop these two after taking care of Boston, Toronto and Houston.

30 wins is one of those things that I don't think will ever happen again, but it's possible someday. Other milestones that are almost or actually impossible to happen again:

Batting .400 all year (last happened 1941): I think never again
A pitcher throwing 2 no hitters in a row (1938 I think): Possible but probably never
Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak: will never ever ever ever happen again. Guys get to 30 rarely, never to 40. Pete Rose's 44 is probably untouchable too, but 56 will never happen
In 1959 the White Sox scored 11 runs in one inning with only one hit (a single!)....won't happen again
In 2005 the Sox lost the first game of the ALDS to the Angels, then win the next 4 in a row....all complete games from the starters, no relievers used at all (forget the order Contreras, Buehrle, Garland, Garcia)....will never ever happen again (in the playoffs)

Also have to add Cal Ripken's consecutive game streak.

I believe the order of the 4 straight CG in the ALCS was Buehrle, Garcia, Garland and Contreras. Contreras lost Game 1 and won Game 5 to clinch. I know Buehrle was Game 2, and I'm nearly positive about Garcia/Garland as well. However, that's the one I may have backwards.

People have gotten somewhat close to Rose, I think it could happen. Dimaggio? Probably can forget about it, but I'm sure someone will make a run at it one day.

Todd Helton back in the early 00's was the last time I remember someone coming close to .400. I think he lasted into late-July or something.

Yep, forgot Ripken. Agreed.

In 1994 I think Gwynn was batting .394 or something when the strike happened. Frank Thomas was gonna win the triple crown and hit 60 HRs too. And the Expos were the best team. That strike sucked so much.

Yeah, it was considered a foregone conclusion that it was going to be a White Sox/Expos World Series. Frank had a very real shot at Maris's record. Which would have been something else, considering he would have been the only non-roid guy to break it.

Shield's getting lit up a little bit again.

Needed more out of that 3rd inning. At least we're hitting Sabathia pretty hard. This could be a high scoring affair.

Pitched out of it... but barely. Man, he's been better these past two starts, but Jesus... some of the luck he's gotten is ridiculous. Balls hit hard right at guys, guys barely missing hanging off speed pitches... outfielder's gunning guys out at the plate.

I don't get what the deal is with him falling behind in SO MANY counts early.

Abreu is such a dogshit first baseman. Move him to dh. So sick of watching him fuck up simple plays

Big knock from Navarro. Knew we'd get to Sabathia in a big way sooner or later. Come on Shields...

Tim Anderson is going to be a star in this league. He has truly been a godsend for us. He deserves perhaps the most credit of anyone for turning this thing around. He got up here, and we came to life.

Only critique I would have is that he likely needs to alter his approach and take some more pitches. Especially in the leadoff role. Only one walk since coming up, and it seems as though he is always behind in the count.

He's young, plate discipline takes time to develop. He does look legit.

Sad thing is so does Trayce Thompson, but I understand why he got dealt (to get Frazier)

Anybody. No range, can't scoop anything, and can't throw. He has cost them at least 4 gms this yr with his glove

I would debate some of that. However, perhaps Morneau could do it the majority of the time when we see right handed pitching. While Abreu DH's. Only idea I can come up with. Obviously we need his bat in the lineup every day.

5 straight series wins! Keep rolling into the break. On pace for exactly what I said. That 46-42 mark, and winning all four of the final series.

Unfortunately, we really haven't gained much ground with a couple teams ahead of us going on win streaks. However, if we keep winning ball games, we'll be just fine.

Another wasted effort by Q.

Jeeezus .... walk the final two batters for the winning run? The Twins?

Team is just pathetically inept at the plate when it counts. :L

And Duke was one of the 'brightspots' of our pen, IMO.

From what I read, Tilson is a #4ish type outfielder with speed & contact, but no pop who may have some decent range & defensive capability.

I'm almost hoping they blow the whole thing up at this point and build the farm. Hell, what's another 3 years of mediocrity to stock up and hope for some winners in our own system? We're plenty used to being a sub .500ish club.
