That 8.1% chance from the Isles could move into the Sabres bucket before the lottery.

If I'm not mistaken, the terms of the conditional pick from the Vanek trade require the Isles to decide before the lottery if they're giving up this year's or deferring to next year.

Knowing that John Tavares will be back healthy next season, wouldn't you maybe give up next year's pick because with him in the lineup and a few other young guys there that are developing like Ryan Strome, it would be hard to imagine that the pick ends up being that high? I would keep this years pick and add another forward to the team(which they need, more depth at forward, their 3rd-4th liners are bad)

But witnessing all what Snow has done recently he would give up this drafts Pick instead. Also the Metro division unless teams have major overhauls isn't going to be much different next year. The Isles could easily get back up in the standings then next years first would be less valuable.

I guess it's a devil you know vs. devil you don't situation.

They know exactly what they'd give up this year at this point. Next year could be better (to give up) or it could be worse.

Next year's draft is considered deeper too, so they have to consider whether a potential 10-15 pick given up next year (with the risk of it being higher) is worth more or less than this year's.

plus that whole mcdavid guy. i dont think the isles are a guarantee to make the playoffs even with extra development and a healthy JT. if i'm the isles, i don't risk a chance at mcdavid to make the pick this year.

True for that draft and who is the say Taveras doesn't get hurt next year.

No matter what Snow screwed them.

That Eichel guy is looking pretty good too.

I'm kinda hoping that NYI defer their pick and are even worse next year. I know the Sabres are going to suck again, but to have two potential lottery picks next year.

I kinda hope that happens too. buffalo deserves a more competitive team. they're always #3 in US ratings behind the two teams playing. good hockey city.

Or the fact it could happen this year. Yeah there is no superstar like McDavid but there is still some very good talent in the top 10.

Assuming the Sabres win the draft lottery and keep the pick, who do they take? My money's on Reinhart.

I agree - they need forwards badly - their defensive future isn't bad but they need more scorers

I'm guessing either Reinhart or Bennett for the same reason. Couple young (future) studs on D from recent drafts, but looking much thinner up front.

I'd be happy with either though.

That said, if Buffalo or Florida snatch Ekblad away from the Oil, that's fine by me.

If they don't fix the goaltending they'll be in the same place or worse. Hell, they outshot their opponents on average this year. I don't know that they can be much worse in that department (goaltending) next year, but the kind of improvement they need has to be more than just regression.

If the Flames don't win the lottery, then please let Buffalo or Florida win it.

Turns out I was wrong on that. The Isles have until June 1 to make the decision so they know exactly what they'd give up this year.

I'm hearing that the Oil seem pretty high on this Draisaitl kid. That could potentially leave one of the Sams (either Bennett or Reinhart) for the Flames if they retain 4th pick in the draft. I'd be fine with that.
