Apparently, the G's signed about 20 kids today. I am too tired to do the leg work tonight. I will try to get a list together tomorrow.

Two of the six primary targets of the Giants are in the fold (Stratton and McCall). Arguments can be the made that these guys are 2 of the top 3 targets, so the draft-signing-stage could almost already be considered a success.

The other 4 main targets are Agosta, Blach, Johnson and Okert (based on what I have read, so take this with a block of salt).

Stephen Johnson signed today!

Was ranked as the 64th best prospect by BA, but fell to us in the 6th because he has some funky arm action.

I'm all for guys who top out at 101!

Agosta is the only major pick left. Williamson, taken in the 3rd, by most accounts, was a $$ pick. We want him, but he is not critical.

Good signing. Outside of ToJo, the org is pretty slim at C...

I know GP posted about these in the Misc thread, but I think they belong here as well...

The Giants signed two HIGHLY rated Dominicans today. I would guess that Cabrera would be the equivalent of a mid-first rounder and Javier would be a late first / supplementary pick (I have not not seen these estimates anywhere, I am just throwing this out there based on what I have read about them).

Fla_Giants' take:

I’ve been dreaming on this kid [Cabrera] for about 7 months now. There’s no way in my wildest dreams that I thought the Giants could sign him – much less for only $1.3M. I’m sure that he would have gotten at least $2.5M under the old rules just last year. This kid is the real deal. Speed, power and patience at the plate at such a young age. As a 16 year old, he was able to dominate American professional baseball players 2 – 5 years older than him during games held in Florida and Arizona this past spring training.

When you add the Nathaniel Javier signing as the cherry on the top, this finally explains the penny-pinching that the Giants just subjected us to during last month’s draft. It’s obvious now, that the Giants saw that they could get much more bang for their buck in the IFA market this year. Sabes pulled a fast one on us – and this time it was a good surprise.

There are a lot more IFAs still out there for the taking, so the Gaints might have a few more surprises for us in the coming weeks. In addition, I’m sure that they’ll be signing 5-10 of their usual 4th-tier and lower prospects in the $5K to $400K range over the next 10 months

I think saw somewhere that Cabrera was ranked as the #5 IFA this year. These lists are always MORE of a crapshoot than the MLB draft, so keep that in mind, but it is nice to make a semi-splash.

MLB had Cabrera rated #1. Not sure when the list was compiled...

2012 Prospect Watch | MLB.com: Prospects

Combine these two with Stratton, Agosta, McCall, Okert, Johnson, and the rest of the fillers in the draft, and this is looking like a NICE year for the farm system.

The biggest knock on Cabrera is the notion that he only has one gear: full speed. He is still harnessing his skills and working on the fine art of playing under control.

For a "16" year old kid who is still learning the definition of the word "nuance" (or "matiz"), I am OK with this. I prefer to have to teach a kid how to slow down then to have to teach him how to speed up.

Just spit-balling here...

1) Crick
2) Blackburn
3) Brown
4) Joseph
5) Hembree
6) Stratton
7) Noonan
8) Peguero
9) Bochy
10) Kickham

I am leaving some of our most promising kids off because they are just soooo young...

Jones
Mejia
Cabrera
Javier
Rodriguez
Fuentes

Others that are RIGHT THERE and could just as easily be as high as 6 or 7...

Culberson
Adrianza
Heston
Oropessa

And then there is Agosta, who still has not signed...

Interesting note...

Last night, DrB stated that Cabrera is instantly our #1 prospect!!

I have a hard time rating a kid THAT young who has never played pro-ball(technically) as our top kid, but I see the argument.

Well, DrB was the first guy online to tout Pablo Sandoval.

BaseballAmerica.com: Prospects: International Affairs: Top 20 International Prospects List

One guy at BA's list from late last week. Cabrera was #5, Javier was not in his top 20.

From what i've read, dude can flat at hit. Its on the Giants MLB board, but someone found a bunch of scout reports that raved about how effortless his swing was, how the ball 'exploded' off his bat, and that he has a good chance to stick at 3B.

Cabrera has mega upside, while Javier is a safer bet to reach his ceiling. That same report said if they were draft-able, Cabrera would be mid 1st and Javier would be a mid 1S.

All that being said, they're Dominican dandy's... that's a bigger crap shoot than prep talent here in the states.

Edit: Found some of the stuff
