I didn't think the targeting call to give Duke the ball after Shaquille Powell was hit and fumbled was the correct call. I was at the game and I know they reviewed it. But that's just football IMHO.
I agree that it was just a football play, but he was coming in for a big hit and didn't try to wrap up. The Duke player also lowered his head/shoulders to brace for the impact which is what really made it helmet to helmet and happens an awful lot in targeting calls where the defender is going in for a clean hit. The announcers were definitely saying it was targeting and then listening to the Bama/LSU game, a couple other plays similar were called just football plays and celebrated. Too much inconsistency in the rule thus far, but I also understand the need to protect players.
Glad our defense stepped up and then the offense was able to put a few first downs together to kill the clock. This game was a lot closer than I would have liked, but also had gotten used to over the years.
Sorry I missed the game thread here. As ever, the Hokies don't attract much interest. Methinks the way Fuente and Foster are directing the program, this will soon change...
