They are what we thought they were - O V E R R A T E D!
If that helps you sleep go for it. The facts are UW was leading before it started to snow, while it was lightly snowing, and when the field got bad. Better weather wouldn't have changed the outcome. Until WSU finds bigger guys for their D line they won't ever have an answer for UW's running game and UW'd D knows how to limit the air raid and has a perfect record of stopping it over the last 5 years of this staff. In every type of weather.Yeah, the weather had nothing to do with it ....
Wazzu is the better team and would have won under normal conditions, but the fatal flaw of Leach's Air Raid is the lack of ground and pound capability. Udub was better built for those conditions, and it played out as predicted.

Exactly. UW has, and has had, the better athletes on defense, and a more than competent staff directing them. Spells disaster for a one dimensional offense, no matter how good that dimension is.Husky Defense Dominates Cougar Offense In Apple Cup Victory
^^^^ this is why the results were the same, not the weather.
Leach doesn't adapt/change/grow his brand. It is what it ALWAYS is and UW knows very well how to counter it. Its plug and play on defense every year because of it.
I was worried about UW's offense and their inconsistency going into this game, but I had no doubt the defense would again confound Leach and his air raid. There wasn't a concern that UW would give up 24+ points, but rather would they not shoot themselves in the feet enough to at least score 20+ themselves.
You may not be able to ever get Petersen to say anything harsh, but some of his staff have no problems publically lambasting the cougs. Lake was straight up about his views of Leach and his systems.
In Leach's first season as WSU head coach they beat the Huskies 31-28 in overtime. It was this programs first look at the air raid. The following year they allowed just 17 points which is the high mark for score for that squad over those next 6 attempts.
WSU had some pretty solid pass protection, but they have no answer for what UW does with their secondary and the athleticism of their LB's. They really don't have the kind of freak special WR's they would need. It's a bunch of pedestrian receivers in a system designed to overinflate their numbers. Their top receiver didn't break 50y.
UW had 44 running plays and just 15 passes and still threw for 67 more yards than the cougs did on 35 attempts. UW averaged 15.3y per pass while WSU averaged a staggering 4.3y per pass.
Let the weather be your excuse. The numbers say something entirely different.
And the kicker is.. snow doesn't impact passing the way wind does. While the footing is for sure worse and makes breaking on routes tougher, it's even for both receiver and defender. Neither can break sharply and the risk of a defender falling down and leaving a wide open receiver is legit. If a receiver falls down it doesn't mean much. When a defender does it can easily go for 6.Exactly. UW has, and has had, the better athletes on defense, and a more than competent staff directing them. This new “well, it was the home field weather that... still the better team” nonsense is my new favorite excuse. Never heard the home team bitch about having to play at home before. Guess what, if your team is so one dimensional that they can’t function in their home town weather, they aren’t the better team.
