I know, but what I'm saying is that our starters generally go 5 and change anyway. you always want them to go at least 6, but so far that's a rare occurrence for us.

Well, deGrom will miss at least 2 more starts, so this is the first of three.

Also, if Dunning being a long man was so important to this point, how come they haven't found a long man to replace him? It seemed to be absolutely necessary until it wasn't. Lol

Going 5 the first couple of times after spring training is fine. At this point most outings should be at least 6. At least.

It still puts an extra load on an already weak pen even if he goes 5.

If he is effective I would think Dane should be able to get up to 65 pitches tonight.

By his third start 85 to 90 could be possible. That shouldn't be too taxing on the pen unless Gray and Heaney both continue to have problems staying in the game.

So probably this start and the next one would be the ones that will put extra pressure on the pen.

Dane Dunning is going to take the deGrom spot in the rotation and is expected to pitch a lot against the Angels, but the Rangers might turn to an opener for an inning or two to help make things easier on Dunning.

And that’s interesting. Obviously, the idea is to use a reliever who’s doing to get three outs, maybe more, without surrendering any runs. With a few relievers scuffling, the Rangers need all of late-innings relievers for later in the game.

Coincidentally, the Triple A team is on the West Coast and played a day game Thursday.

Hope the opener is not LeClerc or Kennedy.
