On the other hand the Flyers greatly improved 36 goal forward and lost nothing. Patrick will better too. D should be improved as well with experience.

JvR definitely fills a huge hole at left wing for us on one of the top two lines. I suspect that we're going to use him a lot more than 15 minutes per game and I hope his production increases as a result of that. You just never know, but hopefully near 40 goals and 70+ points once he gets comfy. He should improve the power play altogether as well with great hands for a big guy.

Also, don't look now, but this is another USA born hockey player with the Flyers, joining our two first round picks. I love that aspect of this.

Yep, the word is that Tavares could've taken 7 years at $13 million per from another team. Not surprisingly, insane money, but he went where he wanted to go at the end of the day.

Hextall basically confirms the Flyers are done, at least for today. Looks like he’s counting on you get guys to fill the 3C spot and the defense.

I’m very good with that. Signing JvR indicates he’s ready to start competing in a serious way. stopping there indicates he still likes his prospect pool and wants to see them grow in to it. I love it.

Also said they’re going to move on from Filpula.

I think it's sink or swim time for guys like Hagg, Sanheim, Morin and Myers. Fill out the second and third defensive pairs or don't. Hopefully at least three of them make the starting roster and stay there for the whole season. I want Myers to stick better than the others too, as I have high hopes for him.

Agreed but if they can sign a guy like Nash that would be great. Grabner gone to Phoenix but I'd rather have JVR.

Glad the Islanders got fucked, but also pretty annoyed at how lucky the Leafs are right now to have so much talent at the forward position, especially down the middle.

Love the Jvr signing.
30 goals easily
Would have liked bozak.

We need 1-2 depth forwards and some veteren depth on blueline.

I still think a trade is coming

Essentially, this is the media's message to NY Islander fans: Don't commit suicide...yet.

So if they are done..

Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
JvR-Patrick-Voracek
Lindblom- ? - Simmonds
Raffl - ? - ?

Ghost-Provorov
Hagg-MacDonald
Sanheim-Gudas
?

Elliot
Neuvy

Looks to be the firm spots in the lineup.

Laughton, Lehtera, Weiss, Weal, Leier all NHL guys last year.

Aube-Kubel, Vechionne, Vorobyov, Myers, Morin*, and Frost I would say are the youngsters with the best shot. Morin obviously hurt, let’s see if Frost gets more of a look after not adding anyone and being a little bigger than expected at dev camp.

Also wonder if they start talking about Bardreau again. He was talked about a lot last summer as a bottom 6 guy that can PK, maybe that gets more of a look this season.

Hopefully younger guys like Laughton, Vecchione, Frost and Myers steal spots from vets like Lehtera, Weise and MacDonald or Gudas. It may not be very likely, but we can all dream now.

None of it matters this year if Elliot and Neuvirth are still your goalies by the end of the season. We’re all now hanging our hopes on Hart lighting it up in LV and earning a call-up by the mid point of the season.

Well, that's pretty pessimistic. I think both of our goalies were wrecked last season by injuries. If we can get a healthy season of them, the play in net can be better from both.

We all want Hart called up asap, but the reality of it is that he probably won't see any Nhl playing time next season at all.

Partially true. But they’re painted in to a bit of a corner goalie wise. And the only real shot at an upgrade in free agency was maybe Hutton. Not interested in a 3 year deal for him one bit.

If it looks bleak come trade deadline, address it then. Elliot gave them some good enough stretches last season though.

A top six of Giroux, Cooter, Koneckny, JvR, Patrick and Jake
That is not too shabby
This also lets the Flyers keep Simmonds on the 3rd line with either Laughton, Wheal or a center to be determined in an effort to get production out of the 3rd line.

I like looking to fill holes from within. I really would not have been shocked if Hextall made a few calls and then walked away from the Frenzy. He had said a top 6 forward well, he got one.

Looking outside the Flyers for a minute, what on earth are the Canucks doing?

Here are your choices:
C, 76gp, 15g, 26A, 41pts
LW, 79gp, 13g, 21A, 34pts

C, 79gp, 7g, 15A, 22pts
LW, 73gp 5G, 12A, 17pts

And here's what they signed for:
Riley Nash - 3yrs @ 2.75
Blake Comeau - 3 years @ 2.4
Jay Beagle - 4 years @ 3
Antoine Roussel - 4 years @ 3

They signed worse players, to longer terms, and higher cap hits. The trifecta!

So as We slowly watch players drift away to other teams we can assume Hexy is done. The JVR signing is ok, I don't see it doing much by the way of pushing us to a cup. I hope some of these kids can produce sooner than later. I just hope we can get past the 1st rd this year.
