I personally don't operate that way. I'm more the what have we actually done, who do we actually have, where do we actually stand type of guy. It's not been that long ago that ardent followers like we have on this board should be able to remember merely hoping for a competent team, once we got that we shifted our attention to wanting a competitive team, well now we have that. My question is why stop there? let's shoot for a consistent playoff participant, after that a perennial SB contender/winner. It's all good until our fears paralyzes us into standing pat, when what's required is taking bold steps in order to achieve that goal. See...I told ya, this is what we should actually do, to hell with woulda, shoulda, coulda's.
Just thought of another thread to start

Every bold step looks good until you realize the last bold step was of the side of another cliff. We been trying the BOLD step program for 25 years. We finally after 25 years get some real progress that is even remotely sustained.... And the first thing we think of is..... Now what can we do to take a sharp left. Cause this patient measured approach to steady improvement.... thats just not normal and its a bit too boring.

Steady but sure is the bold step, previously, all that's ever been done is what you've outlined which might have been BOLD, it just lacked the steady and sure parts.

Well not me, I'd be looking to sweeten the pot with a current player plus that 10th to move up. If that doesn't do it then I'd add a 2nd or 3rd, whichever I could get away with. I wouldn't hurt my team but I would do whatever's necessary, short of that to get the USC QB.

I like that kid Darnold from USC better than anyone coming out this year @ QB.

True, but is he worth sacrificing a season for as well as the coach.

Cause lets be clear, to get him without doing another Griffin type trade, we are going to have to suck bad.. and I mean coach fired mid season kinda bad. And if it took us two 1sts and a 2nd to trade up four spots to number two and get the then considered 2nd best QB in the draft.... can you imagine how much it would cost to make this move if we DONT totally suck this season??

As I was doing these scenarios, I realized that two 1st rounders aren't as sweet as they seem for Cousins.
Let's assume they stick with the 3-4. And because of the extra money they bring back the 2016 offense and
solidify the offensive line. They also get a FA NT and draft DE McDowell.
All the pressure now falls on Gruden, and he's probably fired if they don't win 8 games.
In his final year, if he doesn't win a playoff game with his 2nd year QB...he gets fired.
By 2018, the Redskins should be LOADED with talent....BUT, you may have the same situation where a new head coach comes in not wanting the starting QB

Vicious Circle!

Just saying I liked him. He was only a freshman. I have no idea what our FO would do if they followed this post.

The Kirk Cousins Craigs list add

For sale, one slightly used QB mid late model. Threw for just under 9000 yards over the past two years. No injury History but has issues producing in big games.

Owner says he must go as we want something a little more exciting. Must go, needs to be gone before July 15. Cant keep him and get the new toy we want. Will only accept 2 first rounders (or more) in Exchange.

This sound about right guys??

So I'm looking at this poll from last year and several NFL fans from other teams said they would not trust Kirk as their starting QB. Over 63 percent said they would pass on him. before the start of last season he was 0-6 against teams with 9 wins or more. this month in 2017, the poll thread never closed. People from other teams said they said they would keep him if he could keep most of the team in tact, the signing was based on us having money to do so, and the odds of finding another good QB quickly would be hard

We give them Kirk and we get the #2 this year and say a 3rd in 2018. The Browns take Garrett and we have our pick of the top three QBS. Who do you take??

1. Trubisky
2. Kizer
3. Watson

By the way, on the off chance that the Browns take a QB and Garrett is there..... Fuck it we take Garrett at #2, a DL, ILB or Safety at 17 and hope like hell Gruden is the QB Whisperer he thinks he is.

Id take none of the 3. I pray we can get Garrett. And if we cant then either trade down, or take Jonathan Allen or Malik Hooker.

So, I try to stick within the unwritten rules of your thread and then look for loop holes.

scenario#1
Based on what I've read, all 3 QBs have great mobility and arm strength. Kizer is likely the most pro-ready but not a winner, Watson, although statistically superior to all, and a proven winner...has a 3rd round grade. And Mitch, a first year starter out of no where is arguably the no. 1 QB prospect. Shaky situation, but its likely Mitch will have a great combine, interview and no red flags. Mitch Tribusky@2.

scenario#2

We take M.Garrett for any scheme@2. And ironically because this years QB class was so shaky-- Cousins, Cutler, T.Taylor, Garoppolo, Romo and Foles are acquired by QB hungry teams allowing us to grab Tribusky@17.

What does "not a winner" mean? I think if Kizer played for Clemson he'd win plenty.

Yea dont do that.

We all have to outlive Dan Snyder so that you, me Breed, Sty Skinsdad, KBSO and Cali can have a beer together on the 50 yard line at the 2045 Super Bowl after the Skins win it all again. :D

Oh yea... Daean can come too.. but he is buying.

OK and I forgot Sportster.. .so he gets to come too. LOL

:sad2:

I actually agree none of the three fit into the perfect mold. But come on, you dont really deep down believe that if we deal Kirk... we are NOT going to draft a QB this year, high in the draft.

I know some have the idea that we ride with Colt and make a play for Darnold next year. But I have made my case for why i think even that if it works sets us back, possible another 3-4 years beyond next season. If we were the Browns right now, and some one was willing to give us the #2 for Kirk, I would be 100% down. But I think we are in that gray area where a Change at QB could be good, but might be really really bad because of the options we have.

Dont whine, I have trouble some times remembering my kids names under pressure. And yes I would want you there if for no other reason than to help Dean with the bar tab. :suds:

Yea I agree. We really could be set back by what happens this offseason no doubt.

I love that word "could" because it generally precedes two variables. In this instance "be set back" and "get much better" both apply, even though there is a 3rd option (remain the same)

SO I tend to take a household budget approach with all this.

Sure I COULD take the entire paycheck, drop it on the powerball and I MIGHT come out a whole lot better in this.

Or I COULD pay the Mortgage ( resign Kirk), Invest some of what i have left after all the bills ( Draft and Free Agency), then use some of my discretionary funds to get wild and drop a few bucks on the powerball any way ( the splashy free agency move or the dreaded draft trade)

honestly i'm not sure how some of these analyst are called experts. Based on numbers, Mahommes should be a 1st round pick. All he needs to do is improve his footwork and tell the coaches to run a pro style offense.

Kizer and Tribusky are big and mobile. They don't win games, nor does one have a lot of experience
but they are in expert opinion....better than Watson, who has done some of his BEST work against what NCAA football considers America's team -- Alabama. Not bad for a 4th rounder, hey?

With that train of thought if Cousins went to New England he would be a winner. :thumb: Let me rephrase, more of a winner.

Id easily take Kizer over Watson. Watson is no more inherently a winner than Kizer is. But Kizer has a better arm, better touch, better accuracy, and better pocket presence.
