Mens side has been very true to form. Hardly any upsets. Although Fish almost beat Lopez today.

Women are still all over the map. Coco got smushed by Mattek. Even Serena is struggling

Tennis is the greatest sport in the world. Its man on man, it requires athleticism, intelligence, stamina, unbelievable dexterity, unreal hand eye coordination and there is no one to lean on but yourself ( ie no coaching during the match ), it requires the ability to think WHILE you are playing a point and because there is no time limitations your mental fortitude has to be excellent. I scoff at the knuckleheads who think that hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports. Try returning a 138 MPH serve that leads you 15 feet off the court and still get back into the point or a 118 MPH kick serve that bounces over your head and 7 feet away from you. Do all this with an opponent rushing the net while trying to calculate the proper angle of your return shot so as to not take yourself out of the point before it starts. Then do that over and over for 4 hours in 120 degree on court temps while sprinting and stopping hundreds of times on courts that are either slippery as shit or hard as rock. There is not a better sport in the world or a tougher one to play at a professional level. Thats fact.

Truly, having played baseball at a "not high enough" level, I only used tennis to meet, date and entertain women.

I viewed it like a date every time. Even dated a tennis instructor. Briefly, as it were

Anyhoo, just watched Dimitrov lose to Kukushkin. That's the worst Dimitrov has played in 3 years. Hideous effort. Desperately needs a coach who has had success at slams if at all possible. Rasheed took him about as far as he could, and it's really sad to see him regress now.

I said this about 2 weeks out on the US Open series thread:

If Dimitrov lose this match he won't be able to recover from this in time for the open and will lose by the 3rd round. This would be devastating considering he was up a double break in the 2nd and served for the match in the 3rd

Mannarino is killing the Murray 2nd serve (won 14/21 points). This match is still tight, but only because Andy is making 70% of his first serves.

Remember, Murray's last loss before the quarters of a slam was five years ago at the US Open. It has been a long, long time.

These last couple of days really are a reminder of how strong the fitness level is for the top players. The pretenders are folding like they are a foot from the sun and the big names are acting like its nothing.

Mannarino would have won his match if he could have kept up his level, but that's why he's #40 in the world and not #4 or 14.
