To me it sounds like Robbie was holding on and planning to fight a suspension, but once he broke his finger it made more sense from a time out stand point to just give in. If you don't count what would be time on the DL he is really only serving 20+ games which is a major break. Now he still cant play in the post season and had to give up $12mill. Overall it couldn't had gone any better in terms of his punishment and the ramifications to the M's. Now we have money to add pitching.
I think that is exactly correct!

Robinson Cano replacements for Mariners

5 trades Mariners should consider to replace Cano
Machado, Jones, Hernandez could help Seattle reach postseason

Mariners won't trade for Machado in my mind. Too big of a deal for DIPoto.

I could see them dealing for Scooter Gennett from Cinci who plays 2B, 3B, and LF. They could mix and match their lineup even when cheater comes back. Offer them Gamel and see if that works. Cinci is rebuilding so they may take a shot on him.

My original thought was Lowrie from Oakland, but I am not sure if they are ready to deal him yet.

I would like an everyday player who can play multiple positions and hit like either guy I mentioned. I am so sick of seeing no bat guys like Motter and Romine in the lineup.

If I understand all this correctly, not only will he have the consequences that you mentioned but he also will be ineligible for any chance to be in the hall of fame. It was reported that the decision to drop the appeal was made before his injury. (but I wonder if that is true) If it is true, I'm guessing he and his people must have felt he would lose the appeal. But who knows-so many decisions are made behind closed doors.

Well, kind of. There isn't any sort of rule that says if you get caught using PED's you're ineligible for the Hall, but it definitely makes it tougher for him when the time comes. I personally think the MLB Hall of Fame is an absolute joke anyways.

My mistake. I thought I had read somewhere that if a player was suspended for using PED's they were automatically ineligible for the Hall of Fame. Just curious why you think the HOF is a joke?

I wouldn’t mind seeing Drury in an M’s uni and it seems like he could be had.

I thought of him as well, but the fact he keeps having the migraines worry me. Liked the kid when he was in AZ.

If a player fails enough to get permanently banned then he is ineligible. But otherwise he isn't. But voters have already spoken that they won't vote in guys who used who haven't repented, such as Bonds and Clemens.

I think the HOF is a joke because it shouldn't have anything to do with off field stuff. Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose not being in the hall of fame but Ty Cobb is makes it a joke to me along with the unwritten rule noone can get 100% of the vote just because Babe Ruth didn't.

Yeah-that makes sense to me. I looked up the MLB rules but didn't see where a lifetime ban said anything about the HOF. And the 100% thing is a bunch of crap in my opinion.

So if I understand this right if a player like stanton who signs a 10 year 340 million dollar deal gets caught with riods multiple then plays like garbage for a few years gets sent to the minors and released, aside from his suspension time he will be entitled to all that money?

I dont know about you guys but if I am an aging player like 27 or 28 years old coming in and out of the minors I will probably try to get away with taking riods just long enough to sign a contract. Thats probably what Jose Bautista did when he got to Toronto. Whats the worst thing that can happen when caught cheating? You will be embarrassed and wont go to the hof I will risk that for 64 million dollars which is what Jose got with the blue jays

There is no reason not to try and see if you can get the big contract before getting caught. It happened for decades and a lot of marginal players made big money before getting caught and big players made super big money.

MLB Baseball: If you are not cheating, you are not trying.

Unlike in the NFL, MLB contracts are guaranteed, so players stand to earn all the money their teams have committed to them even if they are cut from the rosters. People sometimes act like this is a bad thing, but the massive contracts show that there’s a ton of money in baseball, and if it weren’t going to players, it’d likely be staying in owners’ already giant pockets.

Well, this is a sport that prides themselves on statistics that start skewed. Why are they skewed you ask? A hitter that plays his career in Yankee stadium has a better chance at becoming a HoF player than a hitter that plays their career at PNC Park. To me this is BS because its not as much about the player as it is his surroundings; this can be applied to pitchers as well. Then you look at how you are voted in, the writers? How the hell are you gonna puff your chest out and act all high and mighty about this prestigious club when its baseball WRITERS that hold the golden ticket? A majority of these people never even picked up a glove yet they determine who gets in and who doesn't? The baseball HoF is a joke and whether or not Robbie gets into this heavenly sanctuary it won't matter. Generations of baseball fans and players alike for years to come are going to know who Robinson Cano is regardless of this stupid club known as the Baseball Hall of Fame.
