Gotta include Knute Rockne. Hard for me to put Wilkinson in the top slot. Frank Leahy is another candidate for top 10. So is Earl Blaik. Bear Bryant and Joe Paterno for sure. Nick Saban and Woody Hayes, OK. Switzer has a great record and also Bobby Bowden.

You want serious input ... I'll give ya some serious input.

Washington coach Don James was 1 - 0 vs Barry Switzer ('85 Orange Bowl) and he was 2 - 0 vs Tom Osborne ('91 & '92). He was also 2 - 0 vs Hayden Fry ... both times in the Rose Bowl and he was 4 - 3 vs Bo Schembechler.

Washington got fvked out of the '84 natty ... but you can see this bad boy natty trophy in the entrance of Husky Stadium. Courtesy of coach Don James.

I think you have to look for coaches after WW2 when the competition was not as one sided in favor of certain teams. Obviously recruiting has played a major part in the last 20 years or so. That said, I'm going to put Joe Paterno in the number one position as someone who got the most out of his players, playing good schedules and not being a beneficiary of really great recruiting.

Mike Price did more with less while at Washington State than just about anyone that ever coached the game.
