Life is what you've made of it.
Stagecoach, the original from 1939 was great. So was Liberty Valance. My personal choice was High Noon. This is an endless list with a lot of good choices.
Obvious answer is Silverado.
Scott Glen, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, Brian Dennehey, Kevin Cline, Jeff Goldbloom, Rosanna Arquette
Kasadan directed a classic.
As a dark horse I will submit Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Sam Peckinpah directed and it had Kris Kristofferson and James Coburn in lead roles. Bob Dylan acted in it as well and his version of Knocking on Heavens door drove the soundtrack. You know how it ends but a great flick.
Will Penny.
Another Vote for Lonesome Dove at the top of any western list.

BoB is the greatest movie/show/miniseries/play/D&D session/whatever ever.But......the poll is for best western movie....whereas Lonesome Dove is a mini-series, not a movie.
Apples and rutabagas.
However....
Lonesome Dove is probably the best mini-series (any genre), although I would guess that many folks would put it as #2 behind Band of Brothers.
