It's a cartoon character and it's been around for 100 years or so. I agree that the folks doing the most whining about this are the ones who apparently have the most to gain -- it's usually a couple of lawyers.

Other franchises, pro and college, have re-invented themselves and nobody died of angst.

the logo is kind of a mockery...

unlike the redskins, which uses the logo a bit more "proudly" as a warrior type. wahoo is cartoonish. that being said, i have no problem with the name or logo.

its baseball. i went to a college that had a native american team name...they changed it, 20 years ago for the same reason. "its offensive".

I was in Atlanta in late 95, with a buddy from Cleveland. He was wearing an Indians jacket, and some guy walks up to us and says "all little Indians want to grew up to be Braves"

What is more offensive Fighting Irish or Chief Wahoo ... neither offends me. If I were an Indians or Notre Dame fan, I would not want something to cartoonish as my logo. If I was the Cleveland Indians fan, I would prefer that the team name was for a real Native American Nation rather than a misnamed group from an explorer who didn't understand where he was at the time.
