Would you keep both Trout and Altuve?

not before the draft, which is why I was asking about whether or not I should keep both Altuve and Trout. I get the allure of keeping both, but given the rest of my roster, it might not make sense.

I was thinking Trout and then 6 guys, which would give me a little more flexibility come draft time.

Keep two or three guys in the place of one Altuve, and use that surplus $ for some better depth

your problem though is that you have no other keepers... I would be all for only keeping one if you had other players to do so... But you are stuck... kind of disappointing to go into the season like that... I wish you good luck, this is a team i would not want at all...

It's more fun that way. Much more "work."

Work is for the rebuild... The "win-now" team, the less work needed the better... and you can't really be a rebuild team when you have Altuve and Trout and no values...

Pos Players salary contract
C Jason Castro MIN 5 1
C Russell Martin TOR 15 1
1B Carlos Santana CLE 17 1
2B Jose Altuve HOU 42 1
3B Ryon Healy OAK 5 1
CI Nick Castellanos DET 15 1
OF Melky Cabrera CHW 11 1
OF Kole Calhoun LAA 22 1
OF Mike Trout LAA 49 2
MI Brett Lawrie CHW 17 1
CI C.J. Cron LAA 14 1

P J.A. Happ TOR 9 1
P Wade Miley BAL 10 2
P Martin Perez TEX 5 1
P Ervin Santana MIN 11 2
P Matt Strahm KC 5 1

Need to keep 6-9 of these players. I know keeping both Trout and Altuve really fucks me as far as putting together a complete roster. I plan on keeping Santana, Healy, Castellanos, maybe Martin, in addition to Trout and/or Altuve. 12 team league, which is why I was considering Martin.

Who would you keep, and would you try to keep both Trout and Altuve?

I would absolutely keep Trout and Altuve.
Last five would be Healy, Castellanos, Graveman, Happ and Melky.

Then I would be looking to move Trout for a $30-some pitcher and a bargain OF.

You can always trade an Altuve for better depth.

Yes.

Arguably, the best at their respective positions.. you can figure out the rest as you go.

That's my theory as well.

I think Happ for 9 is a legit keeper. That's cheap enough and he can be your SP2 or 3 in fantasy.

but yeah, he's gonna have to go bargain basement hunting.

Not sure how your league does in season pickups, but I might just bid for a few more stars and then try to fill in with low cost guys who might also keepers next year as well.

and this is my problem with this team... he has such bad keepers, that he has really no security blanket... things have to work out perfectly... and when you have those 2 keepers to start with, you really NEED to be a contender... and even if he trades one of them after the draft, he still has the same problem because the players he drafts is dependent on his keepers...

this is one of the toughest teams i have seen...

But his situation isnt' any better by not keeping them.

There will always be a contender with some cheap assets who will sell them out to land a Trout or an Altuve.

They are arguably the 2 best players in the game.

He can still bargain shop for keepers for next year.

no, its worse... that is part of the problem!!!

sure, there will be someone willing to pay for trout and or altuve but that will be after the team is forged... he is going to have at most 125 for his last 18 players... Likely, closer to 100... BUT the problem is that he has no strong keepers after Trout, Altuve, and Happ...

He can afford maybe 2 more expensive players, and then will rely on drafting sleepers... as we alll know drafting sleepers is tough... and in any good league everyone has similar sleeper lists...

yes, this can all work out... but he almost needs to be a rebuild team, but he has nothing yet to rebuild with... and very weird calling a team with the best player in the game, and a 2nd top 5 player a rebuild team...

Hold up...how did the Royals fan miss out on Duffy for a dollar? lol

He was a keeper from a previous season.

The league is all KC, so we are all Royals fans.

It might be a retooling year, for sure.

But I think I hang onto them and try to just find those sleepers Strahm might be one of them if the Royals ever give him a shot in the rotation), and build that way.

His cap situation is why I think he has to keep Graveman, Happ and Santana. For basicaly the same price as Gray you get 3 guys who can at least be SP2, 3 and 5.

Ah, when I was asking about examples of cheap SP, I meant from specifically last year's auction.

Yeah, I was only able to find the draft results, and keepers were not indicated.

Ok fair enough.

I was just curious and trying to get an idea what kind of "cheap pitching" might be out there.

Shit I may just keep Strahm solely to maximize your draft dollars.

Shit I may even keep Martin perez just to get cheap IP to start the year, but if he starts out hot....you better fucking trade him. :10::dhd:

Yeah, was thinking about Strahm because there is no guarantee Karns or Young can hold down the #5 spot.
Or even Vargas coming off TJ.

Exactly.

But it will cost you a bit in RP. But you can live with that if Strahm becomes the SP i think he can.

I usually end up punting saves anyway, and making it up in wins and strikeouts

I rarely pay big money for closers
