I figured this would be the overwhelmingly common response to this question. Although, I have to say that I think RR could've succeeded if he was more of a "michigan man". From what I've read, he was hardly given any sort of budget for his coaching staff. If you gave him this year's DC, he could've been good. They improved by nearly 10 ppg in his final season compared to the year before, but damn did you guys not have a defense.

You've got THAT right! A team can't survive (let alone thrive) in the B1G without a defense. I call Rich Rodriguez an experiment gone bad. He was just not a good fit for Michigan (or any team in the B1G, for that matter). I'm going to say that Denard Robinson was largely the reason the 10 PPG improvement you mentioned. But, no matter how good the offense is, a team can't have a defense (especially a poor one) on the field for the amount of time those defenses were. It just doesn't work. I also didn't see him doing a particularly good job of recruiting and developing prototypical B1G players.

Yeah I thought it was weird how stubborn he seemed to be. It was like he was unwilling to change his coaching style. Wonder is Zona keeps him around after their bad 3-9 season?

I LOVED watching Denard Robinson--he was such an exciting player, but as I said, even Robinson couldn't put up enough points to compensate for that horrible defense.
Put the 2010 or 2011 offense with this defense. Goddamn!

I think he could've done alright if he was an OC in the B1G, but under a HC with a strong grasp of defense.

Tell Saban to stop ducking Harbaugh!
Now look what you have done! Saban just buzzed his cartel to wire transfer some money to ensure Washington and Clemson lose. So now we will have to hear about how biased the refs are after the Bama/Mich game!

Saban gots the connects to get that done, no doubt.

Good question. But, as I said, perhaps Arizona just has a more patient fan base. Michigan wasn't willing to wait for Rodriguez to change--the future wasn't looking promising. Of course, then Michigan got Brady Hoke, another disaster.

Saban owns the NCAA. :dhd: Just like Coach K

I can understand Coach K's reloading every year--I mean, he wasn't always the great coach he is today at Duke, but Duke is a great University. I wish I could understand Saban's dominance better. I just always think that there's something suspicious going on--kind of like Kentucky in basketball. I mean, is Saban REALLY that much greater as a coach? If so, why didn't his prowess show up at, say, Michigan State? What's he promising players, anyway? Maybe I'm just overly suspicious.

Saban at Alabama reminds me of Carroll at USC. Btw look up Albert Means.

With that said who's to say OSU or Michigan doesn't become the next Saban or Carroll? I bet both our fanbases would defend the shit out of our schools.

You might be right but I can't even put Zona football in the same conversation as UofM football. The Wildcats just don't have the history.
