If Wilbon catches that pass and takes it to the house, you'd all be sucking Langsdorf's pee-shooter today.

Looks in mirror, nods head.

I totally agreed when the line false started on that snap into Alonzo Moore that was a fumble and recovered by Oregon. Since it was a false start, the play was dead, and a big F U to Oregon.

Nope, Nope, Nope. Don't like football that much.

It's not a big deal to me though. I like his play calling a lot more now that he has a little confidence in our line and I understand the arguments made for it though I still think that was not the situation to use that.
My gut reaction when it happened, my exact words, FUCK WHY WOULD YOU CALL THAT?

My point is that had the play worked, and better yet, scored points, nobody would give a shit today.

I agree it was a dumb play call in that situation especially because of the result. Had he scored, we'd probably being calling it a gutsy play call and patting him on the back. That's the benefit we have of being Sunday morning quarterbacks.

Turnover margin is inflated because the Wyoming QB had a meltdown. Those weren't 'forced' turnovers or defenders making plays. The team has done better fundamentally not making mistakes however.

We ran the same play 4 other times for ~30 yards. We had to test the edges of their D to get them pulled out of the middle of the field so we could keep pounding them with the run game. Being an OC is more than just trying to score a touchdown on every play.

But we were at the 14 yard line. There is so little field to play with. I mean if we're at midfield then I'm all for it every time. But inside the 20 is a different animal. It's always more difficult moving the ball in the red zone.

And my God I wasn't saying they needed to score a TD on the play.

I was saying they needed to move the ball towards the endzone! Getting cute with no room to work just gives me anxiety to the nth degree.

And it wasn't the outcome of the play that gives me this attitude.

The second I saw Wilbon begin to flare out I stood up amongst all the people at our Husker party and yelled "GOD NO!!!"

And then we all proceeded to panic as we watched Oregon scoop up a loose ball with 85 yards of open grass in front of them.

With all of that said, the game was called nearly to perfection besides that whiff.

had we lost the game I would care more about it, the only problem I had is why our 4th string RB's first snap of the game is in the red zone with a play he clearly wasn't prepared enough for

First of all, that backwards pass should have NEVER been called in that situation.

14 yards out and trying to tie the game going into half......and we're not looking towards the endzone? That PISSED me off. That was a horrible play call. No matter what in that situation, you move the ball forward. You move it towards your target.

Second of all, the pass should have been caught. These are College level players. You catch that pass. It's not like he had to go out of his way to close his hands on the ball. Catch it.

But yea, the play should have NEVER been called there.

Don't know if this has been said yet, but Langs blasted Tommy and Wilbon for that play publicly. Said Tommy didn't go deep enough on his drop and Wilbon fucked up his route badly. Said they work on it every single day and stress both those things.

It's a concept play. It sets up other money maker plays. It wasn't just some "well let's just try this random thing now". Get used to seeing that play a lot. When it works it opens up a bunch of other route concepts.

Watch this:
Lateral does not go how Nebraska intended - ESPN Video

SHOULD be an easy pitch and catch if Tommy is 3-5 yards further back and Gates cuts their DE instead of Hahn. If that happens, Carter has the LB sealed with DPE coming across to get the safety on that side. I'll take Wilbon in a 1 on 1 with a corner coming at him every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Even with the missed block from the left side of our line, Tommy should have seen that and sailed it 5 yards over Wilbon's head. As Brasky said, it's something we've done a lot and we haven't had any trouble executing it until that particular moment.

Pretty sure they ran the QB draw out of it a couple times pretty successfully.

The Eagles just ran a version of this exact play except the Z receiver motions in like he's going on a jet sweep before the snap and reverses field on a bubble to fake the corner out. Wentz with perfect depth swings it out to him for an easy 8 yards.

Same down and distance we were working with.

Guarantee Langs saw that and is already scribbling away. :pound:

Get used to this stuff @Jack_John_Mark because for all our gripes about Tommy, next year we're going to be doing things like this to get athletes in space without a mobile QB.

It's not gonna look pretty either. Not for a while. People are gonna bitch and moan and "run the ball guy" is gonna be out in force.
