Down goes Serena in straight sets. Disappointing but I almost expect it at this point of her career.

Still a good year in the majors even though it only resulted in 1 title. This is the only GS event where she did not make the finals this year.

Serena not feeling great physically, and the US Open hard courts are her 3rd worst surface. I wasn't expecting her to win the tournament, and Pliskova has a lot of game.

I'm a big Kerber fan, and am happy to see her probably take #1 (or is it for sure? i FF through commentators and watch on mute). Good for her, and good for Serena to know she's going to have to put in a lot of work to get back there.

That Serena press conference was a joke. The media tried their best to bait her into using fatigue as an excuse. Glad she didn't fall for it

Kerber is so good. What a year for her. 3 GS finals appearances with a chance to get her 2nd GS on Saturday in addition to winning Silver at the Olympics.

Classless of her to cite knee injury and start limping late in the match to justify her loss. That is how ginormous her ego is. If its an actual injury, hope she gets well. But before she retires I want to see one, just one example of class shown in defeat.

WTF was with the presser? "Yeah, then fatigue wasn't a factor, my bum leg was! Get my excuse correct!!!!!"

Almost all tennis players feel like crap and have nagging injuries once they get to their late 20s. Thats life. Some even earlier. Play enough tennis and you will have tendinitis in at least 1 part of your body if not many.

The only thing that can get it better is time off. Even then it will come back eventually when one resumes playing on a regular basis. The human body is not designed to absorb that much torque and rotation on joints over long periods of time.

I should start watching on mute too. Listening to commentators babble and the fans cheer for double faults is irritating. The crowd again was somewhat discourteous to Pliskova. Its one thing to be noisy, its a whole other thing to be cheering not only double faults but even missed 1st serves.

I did not watch the pressers. Not interested in that stuff.

Finally the match itself was not good tennis overall. Some great points though but a lot of ugly shots and double faults.

Kerber looks to be playing cleaner of the 2 left. Seemed to have little issue with Woz. Should be interesting.

Pliskova reminds me a lot of Lindsey Davenport. Same type of physical make up and game style. TBH I really thought her twin sister would be the better of the 2. Bigger serve and a lefty.

How would you rank her surfaces?

Agree, I like Kerber too.

If Wozniacki played Pliskova, I'd pick Wozniacki to win. Better at moving opponents around.

But with Pliskova vs. Kerber, I'm giving the edge to Pliskova, unless she double faults too much.

After Wozniacki's slow start, I thought she competed well, and it was a pretty good match. I also think Kerber vs. Wozniacki will probably be one of those head to heads that won't stray far from an tied series score.

I didn't know about the twin, Kristýna. That's pretty cool. I see both of them have won a doubles title together.

Have the Bryan Brothers ever played against the Pliskovas?

I guess Kristýna is 24, so there's another year or two to see if she can start getting deeper into majors, at least the 3rd or 4th round.

wawrinka with UE all over the place. might as well have not even showed up so far.

i'd love it if he lost in straights because nishikori might have enough in the tank to actually challenge nole.

My list looks somewhat similar but I think I would swap AOno and UO
those are the only two that are even somewhat questionable

and the AO is her better surface by a long shot. not quite as fast most of the time, and the ball doesn't bounce as high, which serena has trouble with at the US Open.

Big break by Kei. Roof is likely going to close now. Just started pouring here in Brooklyn. Should be in Queens shortly.
