Tiebreak to decide who makes the quarter.

Venus was down 4-2 and 6-5 facing 3 match points

Wow, Pliskova pulls out the win against all odds. She had the crowd against her versus one of the best to play the game and even had to fight off the line judges blowing 4 calls (3 were overturned by the chair and the 4th by a challenge). Still she persevered to overcome it all and get the win.

My biggest disappointment though is that Liberal Bacon is not here to read this :heh:

The last match on Armstrong stadium ever is about to be completed. 6 match points for Kei. Next time they play on Armstrong stadium will be in 2018 in a new stadium with a retractable roof.

That was great to see Venus fight off being down a break, twice, in the 3rd set, to get back on serve.

Sad that she lost in the tiebreaker.

However, I think this US Open has had some of the best combined tiebreaks I've seen in a single tourney.

I'm confused about all of this.

They're not putting a roof over Armstrong? They're tearing down Armstrong, and building a new Armstrong with a roof?

Also, why are they getting rid of Old Grandstand?

Nice to see Karlovic fight back in the tiebreak, down 0 - 6, to lose 7 - 4.

Yeah they're tearing it down and making a bigger and better armstrong wit 4,000 more seats.

It sounds like the new Armstrong is going to be so big that they need to tear down the Old Grandstand as well since they're literally right next to each other

Also, dont need 2 grandstands. Cant wait for the new LA. I will most likely skip 2017 as well and see the new setup in 2018.

I may go next year but I doubt it. Would be weird to see no Armstrong even though they're going to have a replacement court just for next year

In other news Murray is absolutely steamrolling Dimitrov. Did not expect such a dominant performance.

Really wish they would go back to that Monday Mens finals. Hate that it goes head to head with week 1 of the NFL Season

I did get a chance to watch the end of the Nadal match on Sunday night. I was actually kind of pulling for him, which I usually don't. I like to see comebacks like that. That was a fun match to watch though.

If they're going to do that, why not make the Mens and Womens Finals on the same day (Monday)? One match Day Session, one match Night session.

Otherwise, the Womens Finals would have the same problem being on a Sunday.

Also, even if the Mens Finals was on Monday, it would still compete with Monday Night Football, so that's a problem too.

Maybe make both the Mens and Womens Finals Day Sessions on Monday.

The games on Monday Night Football are usually terrible, but that's besides the point. People will still watch and it still gets ratings.

Other than that, I don't see an easy solution to avoid the NFL.

They could move the tournament up a week and finish on Labor Day.:noidea:

Well the couple of years when they had the Mens finals it actually led into MNF as it was about 3 or 4 PM EST

Well the couple of years when they had the Mens finals it actually led into MNF as it was about 3 or 4 PM EST

Not always though. The worst was in 2010, with the Finals on a Monday. There were rain delays, and CBS decided that they didn't want to change their scheduled evening program.

So it was pushed to ESPN.

However, for those of us recording it, we had no idea. The match started on CBS, so one would assume that it would finish on CBS, even with rain delays.

The other problem with leading into MNF is that if a match runs long, they're going to cut into MNF. I believe this happened in 2011 or 2013. We didn't see the trophy ceremony because they wanted to show the intros to MNF. Maybe it was 2012, instead.
