still we were in position to win and the D let up. i mean in OT texas ran the ball 9 out of 10 times and still scored 2 TDs. another bad stat was how bad we were on 3rd down. D couldnt get off the field.

How was the Tori Hunter injury not targeting?
Inconceivable why this wasn't called when you see all the other chickenshit ones that DO get called.

And how many times has ND been blasted for 'questionable' targeting?

I totally understand the premise of the rule, but I hate the way it is 'applied' and the penalty for such subjectivity on the field by the zebras. I mean, really? They had all the time in the world to review that play in the booth and call it for what it obviously was ... by the textbook rule! I don't even think they reviewed it as I was waiting for it. Unbelievably bad.

If you're gonna have a serious rule like this, at least be consistent and apply it when it obviously needs to be applied.

That was just one of many potentially game changing plays.

week 1 and refs missed a big call in front of the college football world. time for NCAA to step in and say something. if they dont make that call hard to make that call for the rest of the year.

Refs are garbage. They screwed that up twice. Not only did the refs miss it on the field but also the fact that the replay refs refused to review that play had me livid.

Big 12 ref's did the reviews soooo no surprise they didn't review that one.

i disagree. again offense was not the problem. cant win when your D cant make a stop. if u cant stop the run its over. how many times we see the offense score alot and the D lose the game for us. MZ should have a small role from here on out

Yes the defense is to blame Purguy but they likely would have gotten more going offensively with Kizer in over Zaire so it did cost them when the game was tied at the end and they still had chances after that but it put them behind and that falls on Kelly for not making the choice earlier.

Other than what I already posted in other thread with BK's quitting on the game in regulation ...

As usual ... D is horrible and looked like ass.

I won't pile on much to what has already been addressed, since I agree with damn near all of it, but how in the world can't a team of ND's caliber NEVER have learned how to properly wrap up & tackle after 3 yrs of BVG's ineptitude? That has been the God-awful 'signature' of a BVG ND defense since Day 1 and it continues. It's atrociously obvious and it's costing us games.

My God, I wish Kelly woulda went after Wisky's Aranda last year when LSU poached him from the Badgers. Van Gorder just plain stinks and his scheme(s) just seem over-complicated for too many college-level talents to grasp.

yes but u can make up for in the start. i agree i would of pulled MZ after his 1st 2 series. Kizer scored 2 TDs already at that point. the 1 thing kelly really screwed up is putting MZ in to start 2nd half. overall though it didnt cost us the game. he might added to the loss but overall it was the D. Kelly overall was calling a good game he had a couple bad series at the end. running the ball 3rd and 12 in the 4th was bad and in OT on our last series was bad series. he was not perfect but still help call a game that got us 47pts.

Did anyone question Kelly after the game about why he thought it was a good idea to run on 3rd and 12 in a tied game with 2 to go?

yeah that one series pissed me off. kizer has been making throws all game how can u not trust him. also he went to the well too much with the QB run. dont get me wrong it usually works for us but 2nd half he called it too many times. screens were working at we some what went away from it. i really like sanders and needs more touches. i have notice kizer struggles a little on the short screen passes.

Lot of MZ negs here. My take ...

UT knew Kelly was gonna rotate the 2. He declared in a the Wed/Thurs presser here on local radio his intention to use Kizer between the 20s and insert MZ in red-zone offense due to his more dynamic running/play making ability. Makes sense, right?

So, why didn't Kelly do what he said his 'intentions' were? Was it a ploy to throw Texas off? :noidea:

What I do know is that when MZ was in the game, UT was stacking the box just anticipating the run and, most likely, had a spy on #8. It was obvious what Texas' D-scheme was to stop MZ from getting loose. I wish BK, when he had Malik in there, woulda thrown up some passes to catch UT off guard. Zaire can throw the ball with accuracy, but didn't seem like Kelly gave him much of a chance with the pass calls. It was pretty much telegraphed run when he was in there.

Dunno ... was too disgusted to even wanna hear the excuse machine, so didn't watch.

That said, it definitely woulda been the first question out of my mouth.

The issue is that is when you need to be at your best, and he wasn't at the end of the game. Sure they scored a bunch of points going into two overtimes. I can't agree with you that keeping Zaire in as long as he did didn't cost them to some degree especially if you consider how poorly the defense played the entire game the move to Kizer only should have been sooner. Kelly's unwillingness to name a starter and stick with that guy cost them as it usually does when a coach pulls that kind of crap.

Jesus...this one pissed me off....I won't beat the dead horse, but I will add my takes...

When your offense scores 47pts and you lose because your defense gave up 50, offense is not the issue. For as bad as this offense played, and it was bad at times, they still scored 47pts, 21 unanswered at one point!! What are they supposed to do? Score 90 and hope the defense can make one fucking stop?? This offense is young, the OL is new, the WR are new, one of the most athletic TE in the game is suspended (not that we use them) and you have BK (who's vagina is bigger than his mouth) using two QB's even though it was a bad move....they still scored 47 MF points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Offense will be fine. I would love for BK to hand over the play calling. He is to predictable, and it's getting worse.

All I hear is how athletic and good these defensive players are, yet we can't tackle, stop the run?? LOL...Texas could have walked up to ND DL, told them where they were going to run the ball, and we still would not be able to stop them. It's not hard....when Swoops was in the game, he was running the ball. The tackling was once again complete dog shit.....CB getting schooled and beat badly...So what is the problem?? 3 yrs in a row now..BVG needed to go, and he still does. Maybe we are missing out on these stud Def recruits because of BVG. He is terrible. He gets nothing out of these guys..No pass rush, can't get off the field, CB getting smoked...I could go on, but we all know it...it's been happening for the past 3 yrs.

We wont win a NG with BVG here. Period. End of discussion. ND needs a big name DC, and they need to pay for one. BK needs to turn the play calling over, or at least switch it up from time to time. Man.......

I understand giving the kid a shot but he let it linger for too long and at what point is it hurting the team if Zaire wanted to hurt the teams chances of winning for his own personal gain then they are better off having the guy transfer.

I was ok with giving MZ some series in the 1st Q maybe 1 in the 2nd but after it was so clear Kizer was the better option in no way you start the 2nd half with MZ. That is where Kelly went wrong. Especially after Texas scores on the 1st drive in the 2nd half.
