That's open to interpretation

LOL. Right.

Go look at the "top 10 players in NBA today" thread.

I went through the first 5 pages until people were no longer posting their lists. Only 1 person had LeBron at 2, and that was a Wizards fan (not me) who put Wall first as an obvious joke.

You almost never find a consensus like that on who the top player is. The only time in the last 30 years I can remember that happening was during the Jordan era.

So while you might not agree, everyone else does. LeBron is the best in the league. It is so obvious that it is hard to justify any other conclusion.

i dont agree with this statement- that they are NEVER given to the best player- but i do agree with the overall sentiment that the "best player"- always does not win the MVP. Derek Rose winning over LeBron is a great example.

What I meant was that being the best player in the NBA is not a criteria for being MVP. Sometimes they go hand in hand, but for the most part the award is based on numerous other factors, including team's success and player perception (i.e. if Lebron has 3 straight years of 25, 8, and 7, the third year isn't viewed as greatly as the first).

Do I? Where did I say that?

My bad, you had Wilt at 4, right?

The original point still stands... you said LeBron shouldn't be in the top-5 because he has a losing record in the Finals... Wilt is 2 - 4.

Which makes it even more impressive for Magic and Kareem to be in the top 3 considering one of them had to be the #2 option at any given time. Lebron was the clear #1 guy his entire career.

I guess that's one way to look at it... it just doesn't make sense to me when we're talking about number of titles. Playing with GREAT players may hurt your stats and individual records... but it helps your title count and team accomplishments.

Its not even close to being as easy of a call to go around making statements like that

Yeah, Lebron is basically a more athletic version of Magic, which I why I've always said that he compares much more favorably to Magic than MJ.

Imo, Magic still gets the nod over Lebron on the all-time list, but if Lebron stays at the level he's at for a couple more seasons and adds another title or 2...they become interchangeable. In fact, if Lebron gets 2 more titles without losing again, he and Magic will have the exact same finals record.

I hate giving compliments to any Laker players. But that Magic fella was kinda good.:D

Isiah Thomas agrees.

Btw, heard a great interview with Bird on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday. Reggie Miller was filling in for DP and interviewed Bird, it was really good. It was also the first time I've heard Bird confirm that he really did walk into the locker room before a 3 point shooting contest and said "Which one of y'all are coming in 2nd?"

He also said that he never really practiced shooting 3's. Said he never went out and shot 200-300+ three's a day like guys do now because it really wasn't a big part of the game back then. Kind of scary to think about how good he might have been if he had actually worked on that shot.

Damn, wish I could have heard that one. I was lucky enough to meet him in '96 when the AS Game was in Cleveland. Also remember hearing he was 1 helluva shit-talker back in the day.

That's what they were talking about yesterday. Reggie talked about what a world class smack talker he was. He said that before a game vs. the Jazz in Salt Lake City, he walked over to their bench and said he figured he'd score 43 on them.

Then he went out and scored exactly 43 points against them.

Dude, I had to stop posting a few times because I just couldn't stomach having to defend the Damn Lakers.

But, Magic is my all-time favorite Player.

It's impossible not to like him. I'm sure as a Celtics fan, you have a mouth full of bile right now.

Oh the Lakers make me nauseous. But even I gotta admit I loved watching him play back in the day. I still say his Lakers cheated in '85 & '87 though.

Imagine if you put his heart into BG32's body...lol

Bird was never the most physically gifted. If he were, he'd probably be the GOAT.
