this is what I want to know too.Um isn't Houston capped on how much they can pay him because he's on his rookie deal?
After 3 seasons, teams can discuss extending contracts to drafted players.this is what I want to know too.
I thought you couldn't renegotiate rookie deals. Otherwise Russell Wilson would have redid his deal, instead of waiting.
thanks I was curious, how that worked.

Current contracts
Will Fuller: 4yrs $10,164,313
DeAndre Hopkins: 4yrs $7,626,702
1) What Matthieu said was on point. That doesn't mean it happens in every single case, but its happened enough.
2) Bet that.
3) You triflin mothafucker.
Yup 1st round players can start negotiating if they want after the 3rd season. The Texans actually have a bit of a history doing this as JJ Watt had his done after his 3rd season with that record setting deal at the time. I'm sure Hopkins looks at that and says "hey I'm a top player too so time for you to do that for me." If I remember right though he has a $500,000 bonus coming up next week that is predicated on him actually being with the team so we will see how resolved he is to hold out for this deal.
Hopkins would be wise to hold out until he gets his deal. His value may never be higher than it is right now, and with the serious risk of major injury, $500k is nothing when he could be looking at a 4-5 year deal worth 50-60+ million. With a large portion of that 50-60 mil guaranteed.
If Hopkins were to continue to hold out, no way Houston doesn't cave. I have to believe Houston will do whatever it takes to ensure their star wide receiver is on the field with their new QB.
Agreed. I would, if I were him
Matthieu didnt say anything that wasnt already understood and acknowledged by everyone in the league. He's free to go try for a guaranteed contract in MLB if this system is so unfair for him and other like-minded individuals
