I haven't seen a horror/scary movie in the theater in a long time, but I saw the preview for this one and I just might have to go.

@Win TWINS!!! and I were just discussing this yesterday... Here's my take on it:

Been lookin forward to that movie for over a year now... Started off as a horror short on youtube a few years back in '13. Had a huge following. I was hoping that Sandberg, the director of the original short and the director of this new film, was going to sell exclusive rights and that James Wan would take on the project. But that didn't happen, luckily Wan still produced it. So I think this movie is going to be good. I'm goin on opening night!

Anyone see The Neon Demon yet? Looks like a pretty interesting psychological horror film. Got a good 7/10 rating on IMDB. In just 3 weeks since it's release it has been rated almost 7000 times. That might be because it was released internationally prior to its release in the states. But still, almost 7k votes and it maintains a 7/10. That's impressive.

Hey Sonny did you ever get around to watching these? Curious what your thoughts were on either.

Yes. I watched both on the same night, probably right after I posted that. They're part of the newer horror-slasher-sub-genre that blurs the lines between who's the victim and who's the villain. RW&B does this back and forth multiple times. Once you start to like someone, they do something awful, then once you decide to hate a character, they flip the script and become sympathetic.

Both really good movies. But RW&B is one that will stay with you.

I like it when the 1 chick took a big ass knife and started cutting herself open....

I just watched it, and during that scene I was eating some pasta and sauce. My timing probably coulda been a little better.

It was alright, not great but didn't suck. Some of the plant scenes were kinda creepy. The ending left me cold. No payoff. However, it pretty much guarantees there will be a sequel.

They coulda used some Weed B Gon. ;)

Eating pasta of any sort is never a great idea with horror movies lol. The Ruins came out in 2008... If they are doin a sequel, then they sure are taking their time with it lol.

Good deal. I'll probably be watching both this weekend. Thanks for the rec! :suds:

Yeah. I was lookin' at her leg while she was slicin' and dicin', then I glanced at my plate. Oddly enough, I wasn't quite so hungry. ;)

Didn't realize it was that old; anyway, I agree with you about not having any interest in watching it again. Pretty much run-of-the-mill with a coupla decent scenes thrown in.

I had something along the same lines happen to me. I don't remember what movie it was, but it was gory as all hell (Hostel, maybe?) and I remember not being able to finish my pasta. And it was delicious pasta... :tsk:

I'm probably too hard on that movie, but like I said, something about plants being the antagonist made it very silly to me. When the flowers were making the phone ring noises I just about turned the movie off lol. Only thing I remember liking about it was the infections. Pretty epic lookin from what I recall.

I agree about the phone ringing noises and it seemed that they were mimicking love making at one point to get the blonde chick pissed off. If there was an explanation for this stuff, I didn't see it. Didn't make a lot of sense.

But I thought the plants grabbing bodies and crawling into body parts was pretty cool. Kinda like an old 50s sci-fi movie. Shame it wasn't done a little better.

And the ending just sucked.

Hey @jakedog56, have you ever seen Wolves (2014)? Tryin to decide if its worth the watch. Looks more action than horror, but hard to tell.

Watched it last night. Decent for a werewolf movie but the genre is top heavy with greats and falls off pretty damn quick.

It starts off strong with strong jawed All-American pretty boy going from starting QB to sprouting hair and attacking folks in short order. When his parents are mutilated he goes on the run with his trusty motorcycle and hangs out in sleezy truckstops and bars.

He runs into a werewolf-biker who tells him about a town of lycanthropes, so he heads there and chaos ensues when he learns about his heritage, nails the local werehotty, and challenges the main gang for territory.

At the beginning it reminded me of a poorman's Near Dark with werewolves instead of vamps (stylistically) but it starts losing it a bit when the main story fully kicks in.

Positives:
*Holds a decent style. Generally fun to watch.
*Some cool fxs. The jumping was cool. The changing was cool (but limited to individual bodyparts, like hands, or teeth, etc).
*Backstory is intriguing.
*Rather gratuitous Stephen McHattie, who is basically the Canadian Lance Henriksen.

Both positive and negative:
*Werewolfs are pretty cool sometimes, pretty damn cheesy at other times. The musclebound look withclothes on was rather laughable.
*Fighting choreography was good sometimes and almost Star Trek bad at other times (well, not Star Trek bad, but still........)

Negatives:
*Acting wasn't great.
*Story got cheesy as it went on. It was a shame since it could have been much better if they would have continued with the feel of the first half hour.
*Not ever really scary

I give it a 5.5 to 6 range. Watch it if you like werewolfs.
