They really wouldn't even have to bring the kids off the bench.

You'd have a starting lineup of:

C - Cousins
PF - Randle
SF - Durant
SG - Clarkson
PG - Russell

Then the first 3 off the bench would be something along the lines of Nance, Hibbert and Lou Williams. Of course, first things first...they have to actually get to keep the pick to trade it. lol

To get a Cousins or Butler, it will likely take the first round pick and either a Russell or Randle even if it's the #1 pick.

If it requires Russell or Randle, then the Kings and Bulls can fuck off.

I'd be willing to give grudgingly give up Clarkson, but that's pretty much it.

Yeah, I don't see Larry Legend doing this deal.

Maybe for #1 overall if he decided to tank/ total remake on the cheap ala Portland.

But, Blazers only went that route because their best player bolted for greener pastures.

Paul is the best player there. So, anyone else taking flight won't hurt as much.

I bet Gordon Hayward can be had.

But, would you trade a young Ingram or Simmons for Hayward?

Adding him alone won't get you to the playoffs.

Well wonder what else they would consider trading for him bc it wouldn't be straight up. They have nothing else to offer that Indiana would want except maybe Randle and he isn't going anywhere.

I think a lot would depend on how badly George may want out and what Indy might choose to do if he does want out.

What potentially gives this rumor legs is that George actually wanted to go to the Lakers. If memory serves, he was set to become an RFA and the Lakers were going to offer him, but it was clear that Indy would match and he does like playing in Indy. Plus, he's from Los Angeles.

Seems like the offer I've seen that makes the most sense is the pick plus Russell for George. If George really wants to come to the Lakers and Indy decided to trade him and start a rebuild, they could do worse than Russell and a #1, 2, or 3 pick.

Don't see it happening, but you never know.

That would be a dumb ass trade in my opinion. Giving up three players that are about one-third develop and have the potential to be all star players. Now if the Lakers could end up with Paul George, Cousins and then sign Whiteside, it would be worth it as long as they don't have to give up Randle.

:agree: - The problem with all of these trades is that it still has the potential to blow up to quick. Let's face it - players that are closer to 30 then 25 have little time left in their peak condition. What I like about what we have is that this year, next year or two years - it's guaranteed free agents will come running our way - We don't have to give them everything we got

I don't buy it. How will the Lakers be better if free agents say no thanks? Free agents have better options. Time will tell, but I just don't see it.

Well, for starters, they likely have a better coach. They also have young talent that will improve. Obviously, they'd like to land a couple of top level players to get turned around more quickly. But even if they don't and just take whoever they get with their pick, normal improvement and better coaching will make them better. Just not as fast as they'd improve with a couple of top FA's.

A few years ago, the Warriors had a very young Curry and Thompson and weren't exactly tearing up the league. Better coaches, their own improvement, couple of roster tweaks and look at them now.

Also, landing one top level player whether via trade or FA, will likely attract another one. Example, assuming they keep the pick, reports are that they intend to make a strong run at trading for Paul George. If they are able to get that trade done (which I don't think they will), combine George with the young talent they already have and a coach that a lot of folks are pretty high on, they suddenly become much more interesting to top FA's.

WhAt do you think about this rumor?

I get why it's going around considering they hired Luke.

I get that salaries are gonna be ridiculous.

But, Damn.....that's a lot of money for a guy who is never happy.

At least the years are short.

Three years and $50 million?

According to several league executives, that is likely to be what it takes to land Warriors restricted free agent center Festus Ezeli this summer. “Obviously there are health issues you’re worried about,” one general manager told Sporting News. “So I don’t think you’d want to go beyond three years. But he still has a lot of upside and he can get better in a bigger role.”

The Lakers, a source said, will have interest in Ezeli, seeing his size and rim-protecting defense as an ideal complement to forward Julius Randle. L.A., of course, just hired Warriors assistant Luke Walton to be its coach. Ezeli had the best months of his career in November and December, with Walton filling in while Kerr recovered from back surgery, and before Ezeli’s knee injury.

How to solve a free-agent problem like Festus Ezeli? $50 million works

That would be interesting. Injury is obviously a concern, but he's also only 26 and he'd be a definite upgrade over Hibbert (who I wouldn't mind keeping as a backup).

I'd prefer they go after Whiteside first, but he would be a good backup plan and at 3yrs./$50 million, would cost less than Whiteside is likely to as well.

I knew what you meant. lol

Hopefully, his injury issues are behind him. A team can always sign him for 3 years and then extend him if it looks like they are.

Whoever they get, I would like to see the Lakers keep all of the players they sign 15 Million and under and flat out refuse to give up 20/5 year contracts until they have proven themselves. Three year/50 million for three really good players would be decent and then if one or two turns out to be a dud or less then what they expected, they can still turn things around in two years when the rookies are ready to roll like Curry and Thompson.
