GT also whiffed on Bryce Drew.
Most people in the Triangle media believe that Capel is going to succeed K.
Wouldn't most people consider Memphis a better job than G-Tech?

A lot of good college jobs are in wack ass cities.I'd much rather live in Atlanta than Memphis.
Think that is irrelevant (unless I'm missing a post here), since Pastner isn't leaving because Tech is a step up, he's leaving because he has very low job security right now.
GT is a very good job on paper (Atlanta and the ACC). However, they really haven't been able to capitalize on their natural advantages since the end of the Cremins era. Hewitt making the FF in 2004 is one of the most "WTF, how did that happen" things in sports. They gave Hewitt a big contract after that and its really effected the way they've been able to spend money on coaches ever since. They are still paying Paul Hewitt money.
They were a 3 seed that year.
Not that outrageous.
It also helps that a 9/1 and a 10/2 upset occurred in that bracket. Leaving the 3/4 matchup in the elite 8.
My point was that it is surprising (looking back on it) that a Paul Hewitt team made the Final Four, not a 3 seed made the FF. Hewitt later proved to be an absolutely atrocious HC. His overall conference record at Tech was 72-104.
He was also fired after only four years at George Mason.

LOL, JK. Hewitt did alot with Cremins recruits. And then completely bombed. That year, we had some gamers and they played well - you DON'T make it all to the Final Four without legit.
But then, the program went south. Fast!
