I agree that most SyFy movies are pretty crappy but some can be good for a laugh if you are in the right mood.

One that I think is actually pretty good is Infestation from 2009. The trailer (posting from a pc for a change and not my phone) makes it seem like typical churned out SyFy crap but both myself and my brother-in-law (who watched completely seperate from me) thought it was a decent horror-comedy flick.

Of course it has Ray Wise in it. He is in just about everything.

On a side note: My curiousity got the better of me and I tried to look up the "best" lists of SyFy channel movies. It is noteable that most of the ones that people list are typically in the 3.3 to 4.5 ratings on IMDB. In fact, Infestation was the only SyFy original movie that I could find that was rated over a 5 with a semi-respectable 5.9!

It still suffers some from the SyFy stink-feel, but overall it is a decent movie. I saw someone describe it as a 2nd string Shaun of the Dead and thought that was an interesting comparision (though it is certainly not in the same league as SOTD).

LOL that looks ridiculous. But definitely not as "out there" as most of the crap they produce. Ray Wise is like the Nic Cage of the horror genre.

After (2012)

On Netflix! Been a while since I've reviewed something on Netflix. Pretty cool concepts they used in this movie. Not exactly original as this movie's plot has been done many times before, but the reaper & "closing curtain" concepts were original. The creature was pretty badass, and one of the main highlights for me in an otherwise slow film. It was a fairly lackluster & effortless film, but it was executed well. Another thing that set this movie apart was that the characters were able to acknowledge the possibility that they were already dead (or are they? :plotting:) pretty early on in the movie, whereas most other familiar films employ the negligent roles where characters figure it out in the climax. That was a pretty cool thing to see because it made everything more mysterious and keeps you guessing. The acting was decent and the cinematography was good. The climax left something to be desired, but I still think it was fitting. You basically figure out during the uptick in suspense that something isn't going to end well. Overall it was an interesting movie but nothing great.

Slow burning mystery/thriller... 6.5/10

The Witch (2016)

Thanks @SLY for the rec! :suds:

This was a pretty good movie, but I'm not part of the majority when I say it didn't blow me away. The best part about the movie, besides the acting, is the contrast between drama and horror. The film could be viewed as two separate stories heavily intertwined: the supernatural horror and the terror of violence within the family (not to mention confusing & oddly disturbing behaviors). Amazingly this is all done rather seamlessly, missing no beats and never seeming to give up one for the other. That takes some really good writing on their part. The film itself was almost as if the writers & director were trying to reinvent the old witch folktale. It can be viewed as a little bit dull if you aren't big on the family drama because the supernatural parts are few and a bit far between. That was probably my biggest knock on it aside from the somewhat confusing conclusion. @SLY forewarned me to this lol. But hats off to the actors in this. Incredible jobs all around. Can't believe they were able to get all of them, kids included, to essentially master the "old English" language. Side note, it can be incredibly hard to follow during some scenes because the dialect is so raw. I found myself trying to piece together sentences to make sense of things, but by the time I figured it out they were already 10+ sentences down the script and in the next scene. Might take me a few watches to fully comprehend & digest the movie lol. Sorry to steal your adjective @SLY, but this movie was indeed very visceral. Overall a well executed horror film.

Come hither my pretties :heh:... 7.5/10

Tell me How it ended! I wont rewatch it. Lol
So she does end up believing the doll is real. But the doll actually turns out to be the real boy that had been living within the houses' walls. He had hidden passage ways throughout the house so he was able to enter rooms and move the doll however he wanted whenever people weren't there. The ex boyfriend of the sitter (who she went on this trip to get away from) ends up finding her. The "doll" ends up writing "get out" in blood on the ceiling above him while he slept, and the guy sees it and she tries to explain to him, as he was getting violent with her, that its the doll & not her. But the ex boyfriend ends up whipping the doll against a chair and shattering it to thousands of pieces. At that point the real boy tears a hole in the wall and starts stabbing everyone. The sitter somehow gets away but goes back to save the neighbor that was into her (who was also caught up in the whole ordeal). The boy fights with her but she ends up stabbing him and ultimately killing him IIRC. Don't quote me on all this because I'm pretty damn drunk right now so I may not be remembering this as well as I think I am.

Well, that ended better than it started, thanks!

Damnit, I'm pissed at myself for reading the spoiler, but that sounds pretty great! :)

I watched "Hush" last night on Netflix. Home invasion movie about a guy going after a dead girl. Was released at SXSW, I think that's the name for it? Lol but whatever, Netflix liked it and purchased it and put it on instant streaming. If you like home invasion movies, I recommend it, it was pretty good. Predictable at times, but overall good.

FYI : I was trying to figure out what this was so I checked it on imdb. DEAF girl, not dead girl.
