It will be wild, my friends. Roster changes - signings - departures - discussions about where the Broncos might be going, draft speculation - the off season in the NFL has become almost as interesting as the season.. Glad I'm here to read your responses.

If the past is prologue - I expect the John Elway Broncos will make aggressive moves to replace players who don't fit the salary cap. I'm not worried about QB - last year the Broncos won a Super Bowl with some of the crappiest QB play of any team so honored at the end of the season. If Kubes gets the run game going - it makes the QB job a lot easier to play.

This is a point that you and I will differ on. I'm not convinced that depending on a quality D to carry a NFL team is sustainable. Point to the greatest D's of all time and I'd suggest only the Steelers teams of the 70's (i.e. pre-free agency) were repeat champions.

I'm always glad to find those points on which we differ - George. ;)

You're orientation to the world is worry, my friend.

What I am observing is - the Broncos have transitioned from PHD level Qbacking to a system that requires only a Bachelor's degree. More guys can play it now - and the run and short passing game sets the QB up for the play action.

But that D coupled with a better running game and what I believe will be improved QB play and this team looks like it's going to a contender again in 2016.

Oh i don't doubt that the Broncos will contend - they are both talented and deep enough to do that. i believe it is more the exception than the rule to win it all with mediocre to poor QB play.

Agree. If anyone thinks Denver is going to repeat this year with mediocre QB play your nuts. The running game doesn't work if the D doesn't respect the Qb. With the losses Denver is sure to incur on defense, their going to need an upgrade in qb play even more than last year. If you don't think defenses last year respected Manning, ask Josh Norman. I think he qualifies better than any of us. To think your going to throw a Rex Grossman or a rookie in there and expect to have a great running game and win another SB then I want some of what your smoking. :)Please.

CBS is reporting that the Denver Post says that Elway has made or is making an offer to Oz and the guess is that it will be between $12.5M and $16M per year for 4-5 years. That's a big gamble on a guy who's only thrown 305 passes in a very controlled offense. The chance is that he will be successful and the cap hit will be small by guaranteeing a big chunk ($30M-$40M). Only problem is that if he craps the bed, he guaranteed money will kill the cap down the road.

This story pretty much puts Manning out of Denver. Other than running his PaPa Johns, he most likely will be playing football elsewhere if he doesn't retire. According to CBS, he was supposed to take a physical yesterday, but was cancelled.

If Kubiak keeps the leash as tight as he did last season, I (that's me) think that Oz will suffer the same problems and probably worse next year.

Elway appears to have a plan to keep as many of his present players as possible. Problem is that he's smart enough to know that he can't play the guaranteed money game with all of them and potentially sack the future for a another shot at the Super Bowl. We all know about what injuries can do to a team.

I'm all for keeping our world champion defense together but we must have a more than competent offense to be a contender for the long haul. As some have noted, sustaining the kind of defensive play that the Broncos saw last season is very difficult to do.

At this point, I still think it has to be a commitment to Osweiler. It's still a quarterback driven league and it only makes sense, given the talent (or lack of) in the ranks of QB's out there. I'm a fan that thinks Osweiler can be great with time, coaching and experience but would certainly not gamble the future on that. I hope Elway locks him up for only a couple of years, so we can see what we've got.

This off-season should be interesting to say the least. Only one team really enjoys the off-season and that's the reigning champs because they get to continue to bask in the glory. I'm basking right now....

Strategically speaking, Jackson is a more intricate part of this D than Ware. If Malik walks we need to find a suitable replacement. Offensively we need an O line to run this scheme. Beadles is a start. We can repeat with this D, we can find a qb if Oz walks. Karpernick, RGIII, can run this offense. They actually might be more dangerous because they are a true threat with their legs. Kubiak runs a pretty qb friendly offense. I'm more worried about overpaying for a guy like Oz and losing out on our stud defensive guys who have proven they are championship caliber. We destroyed Cam. That's what wins championships

Manning's agent Tom Condon:

"There’s a time when the contract becomes guaranteed, so they’ll just have to make a move before then," said Condon "He’s completely aware of the guarantee obligation from the club on a date certain, and he knows that there has to be some accommodation prior to that."

Integral pieces or not, you don't want to overpay. I think Malik will price himself out of Denver, and I suspect we won't miss him as much as some think. We may even have his replacement on the roster already. This is why you establish that talent conveyor belt. If a vet wants too much money, his replacement is waiting in the wings.

Elway seems to be a guy who doesn't overpay though. If Oz wants more than $15 MM, he'll likely be on another team if he's even offered that much.

I was letting this off season get under my skin just like last year but I think Elway and band of drunkards are excellent at finding that junk bin player that is as good or better Sanders I went bonkers on and for what ???

Yes he is better at some things call it a draw on the things he don't ..

I think Jackson can be replaced and Ware cannot ..

I think Ray is a feasible replacement for Ware, as is Barrett. Don't get me wrong, I would rather go with Ware, but he is getting long in the tooth and has back issues. Getting pressure from the front 3 and being able to set the edge is paramount in this D. That's what Malik brings. Who replaces him?

Actually, virtually every dynasty had a formidable defense. In many cases the most overlooked aspect of those teams. Including the Brady Pats (especially his first 3 titles) and ALL of those 49ers teams. Which really had a dynamic defense during their entire dynasty run that lasted from 1981 to the end of Youngs career.

All of them. Many cases the offenses got the Lions share of the credit.

I get your point, but the fact is the Broncos won it with perhaps the worst QB play for any SB winning team and that includes the 2000 ravens and 2003 Bucs.

I mean the shittiest QB I have ever witnessed for a SB champion.
