This is a pretty lame attempt to make it appear as though Goodell said any of that. You're just hoping that between your title of the thread and your fake Goodell quote some dumb people will be stupid enough repeat this as if it really happened. Goodell isn't going to apologize any time soon, and I wouldn't be surprised if he still tries to push for the Brady suspension in an appeals court.
You think I thought this would be taken as an actual apology?
You must be Canadian or a Buffalo fan......

Well you did start a thread titled "Goodell Apoligizes" and then immediately had something that looked like an apology in quotation marks written as if Goodell said it. If someone didn't take the time to click the link or they just casually saw the quote they might think Goodell actually said that stuff.

People who think that the NFL should just drop the deflategate trial just don't understand the issues involved.

The judge's ruling that overturned the Brady suspension is so ground-breaking and precedent setting (and idiotic) that the NFL has no choice but to fight.

The ruling basically makes it so that the NFL can not suspend players for types of cheating that are not directly spelled out in the CBA. It was an absolute moronic ruling because it is impossible to map out every type of possibly cheating and the consequences in an agreement like that.

Brady wasn't found to be innocent of the charges.
Brady wasn't found to be punished too severely.
The judge's ruling was that the NFL didn't have a right to punish Brady.

When you view it like that, you can understand why so many people were surprised and appalled by the ruling. This ruling opens the floodgates to types of cheating in the NFL with absolutely no means of punishing those who get caught.

This is the reason the NFL has to fight this even if for PR reasons they might just want this to all go away at this point.

The NFL needs to have the ability to protect the integrity of the sport. The judges ruling stripped away that ability. It is why this legal battle can't stop no matter what Goodell or anyone else thinks of the deflatgates charges anymore.

Yes, when viewed incorrectly such as you have. WTF did you hear that the judge ruled that Goodell didn't have a right to punish Brady?

Oh, and how did you like this play?

Some people are really easy to fool, I'll grant you that. It would not be right to post anything disingenuous.
Kind of like the "leaks" to ESPN? Fooled a lot of people......

People on both sides of this have to be aware of their own biases. It's easy to defend your own team and attack other teams you already don't like.

The NFL needs to have the ability to protect the integrity of the sport.

The NFL destroyed the integrity of the sport by their own decisions a few times before deflategate.

Rank these items in order of most integrity-destroying to least integrity-destroying:

1) Subpar games on Thursday's.
2) Subpar games in London.
3) Diminishing the on-field talent level because of off-field behavior.

When it comes to caring about the integrity of the sport the NFL doesn't have any credibility.

LOL.

You realize that all the things you listed are WILDLY popular right?

Thursday night has been a gold mine for the NFL. The NFL took one game from Sunday's slate of games and moved it to Thursday. And the end result: almost $1 billion every year in extra revenue.

The fact that you would list the Thursday night game just shows how off base you are. Other professional sports leagues like MLB, NBA, ect don't even dream of such success that the NFL has had with this single game. The average Thursday night game gets an incredible 17 million viewers a game. More people watch Thursday night football games than watch World Series games.

The London game isn't nearly that successful but is still letting the NFL crawl it's way slowly into a new market.

And have you not paid attention? Most sports fans WANT to see crappy off the field behavior punished. The NFL for years let it go because the die-hard football fans didn't give a crap. As their brand has grown and the popularity has spread into different population segments, the call for off the field behavior to be punished has grown and the NFL has followed suite by making it so.

Newsflash: Just because you don't like something doesn't mean other people don't. You couldn't be much more off-base with your comments here.

People only want them punished because of the $$.

They can claim any kind of moral superiority they want, but if these guys were still making pennies like they were back in the day, no one would care. Just like they don't care that Ryan Leaf was able to become a greeter at walmart. Because it's about the fact that these guys are better than 99% of people at something and make way more than them doing it.

We were talking about integrity. You brought up integrity. I responded about integrity. And then you completely ignored integrity. "Integrity" doesn't appear once in your post.

What does "integrity" have to do about which night they play a game on? Is Thursday some sort of religious holiday that I am not aware of? And what is so offensive about an international game taking place?

And how does a sport lose integrity by trying to suspend players with major off the field incidents in order to try and deter other players from making the same mistakes? The vast majority of people would see the previous NFL that turned a blind eye to DUI's and DV as having less integrity as the modern version that suspends players for such acts.

The reason that I didn't mention integrity is because using it in the context that you had used it in makes no sense.

And no one else saw it! It was great.

I saw it and mentioned it before on here, but it was still a great play that was the deciding factor of a SB win....
It was close and he got away with one as happens all the time in the NFL on all teams....
But Pete should be tarred and feathered for calling that stupid play.....:2cents:

You must not understand what integrity of the game is. Worse and less talented football is directly at odds with the integrity of the game. So yes, the context I used it in does make sense.

Fair enough. I think those type of plays are often close even though I thought Butler had the position by the smallest of seconds, (which is why it was a great play). I'll admit my homer bias but I think enough from all fanbases saw the play and appreciated it for the good play it was.. As opposed to blaming the refs.

Yeah there were probably better plays and safer plays Carroll could have called but if Butler was just a second or two later, Carroll could have been labeled a genius and true riverboat gambler with kahunas of steel.

Or, they correctly throw the flag and he gets a mulligan for throwing to the least talented player on the field.
