Yes Lions are done. They should start over. It hasn't worked anyways. They should trade stafford.

So maybe the Bears wont be the worst team in the NFC North.
yeah.. i don't think Calvin Johnson did anything last year that can't be replaced.. the guy has been injured non stop for the last 3 years. He wasn't himself anymore. he wasn't even a top 10 WR anymore...

Stafford stock just fell into the Grand Canyon...

Serious note, good for Calvin for knowing when to hang it up... Much like Robert Smith and Barry Sanders, they put body and family over money and fame...

Yeah in a sport like football you must do this.

Not sure they would get what they deem value for Stafford imo... What do you think they could get for him?

I'm sure QB starved teams would gladly give up a 1st or 2. Just like the Raiders did for Palmer.

Looking at his contract, the Lions were probably going to make him a cap casualty this offseason.

They likely told him that if he was to retire he could keep the remainder of his signing bonus.

This allows the Lions to save face by not cutting one of their team's best players of all time, and still clear 17 mil on the cap.

This might be a good thing for Stafford. Chucking it to Megatron when everyone is covered is what he's done since he came in to the league. Which has given Johnson lots of volume stats, but it hasn't been good for developing a consistent offense, particularly due to turnovers from forced throws. Maybe now Stafford and the coaches will actually try to read the field, take what's there and minimize turnovers.

Interesting stat: CJ's best catch rate in a season was 61% in 2011. Tate had 70% in 15 and 69% in 14.

Tate will never be open now, though. I do think the lions pass offense will survive but the pass offense was the only thing they did really well
