American Horror Story has gone completely downhill since season 2. What a shame, had such high hopes for this show, I have now given up on season 3-5 halfway through each one.

I know this is more Sci-fi, but I just watched District 9 and was blown away. Freakin' outstanding.

And where does it rate on the BoobMeter?

Surprisingly not so great.

4 titties. One set on a zombie stripper which is hard to see because of the club lights flashing. The other set was on a zombie cop who had her shirt ripped off on a fence. While the lady officer had a formidable pair of ta-tas in a close up, they were done up in zombie make up- colored grey with purple veins added.

The zombie stripper did do an upside down pole dance move with full on open neck artery blood soak so that gets a thumbs up.

So breasts were kinda lamed out unless you are into necrophilia (which I am guessing some here are!). If you are going for it don't go halfway.

Yea I don't get it... How can you hit home runs in back to back seasons and then fail so miserably? I think the the writers are simply failing with their direction. All the stories certainly sound good on paper, but for whatever reason they get too discombobulated on screen. I think the focus on character drama is what is detracting from what made the series popular in the first place. They spend an exorbitant amount of time on character development when the majority of it is completely unnecessary.

Coven was ok, because witchcraft in itself is pretty cool. But the story they created left a lot to be desired. My favorite character in the entire season, Papa Legba, was rarely shown. Would have been a lot cooler to see him more. Freak Show had an interesting premise, but somehow they failed so badly that they were left patching pieces together by the end, before just sayin fuck it and killing everyone off. The clown dude was the only scary thing about that entire season, and he lasted maybe 4 episodes. The psycho rich kid had promise, but a combination of bad acting & the way the director portrayed him really got too bizarre for me to handle. I stopped midway through this season because I hated it, but then picked it back up 4-5months later. I thought maybe stepping away from it for a while would give me a refreshed view on it. But no... Still sucked, but I pushed through to the end. Regretted every second of it too.

Great movie... I thought they were going to make a sequel to this? Haven't investigated it, but I'm sure it will get done at some point. Wish this movie was more horror/thriller because it could have been very intense, but its still a good movie nonetheless.

On a side note, I really do love Sci-fi horror/thrillers. As evidence of almost ALL of my reviews in this thread. For me the sci-fi element provides the best horror element. "The fear of the unknown" is usually the biggest draw for this genre. And it provides the most vast medium for the imagination & creativity. Writers & directors can dream up virtually anything they want, which usually produces the best results! At some point I'd love to write up reviews on more of the classics like The Thing, Alien, Predator, The Faculty, Event Horizon, Mimic, The Mist, etc... Or even some of the more recent greats like Prometheus, Pandorum, Europa Report, Last Days On Mars, etc... I could go on and on!

One movie you might be interested in is Attack On the Block. Its sort of a whacky horror/thriller comedy that is a mixture of Independence Day & Shaun of the Dead. Not really the greatest of movies, but very entertaining.

COMING SOON!

The Forest (2016)

In Theaters January 8th

Synopsis: A supernatural thriller set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest. A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer of “Game of Thrones” and “The Hunger Games”), goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate.

This will be the first movie that I have seen from Jason Zada. He was a writer for the movie The Houses That October Built, of which I was not impressed with. But there's always something of an allure for me with new writers & directors to see them make huge leaps in their career. They start off small with good chemistry & makeup in their work, then they take it one step further. Most fail, but when given the right material, they can vault themselves to the top of the game. The material for this movie looks awesome. Not exactly original, but the ideas, and writing look amazing. One of the writers in this movie, Nick Antosca, has done an amazing job as a TV show writer (Hannibal, The Player, Last Resort, etc). I'm excited to see what these two can do together.
I think it looks pretty good, might check this one out.

Said this already... But I'll post it again...

That film has recently come under fire for claims of whitewashing & insensitivity. Whitewashing, in that they have taken a foreign, but factual, place and introduced an all-american cast. One would think that given the Japan location, you would see some sort of asian heritage in the main cast. Kind of weird they chose to go that route, but I'm not going to dismiss it because of it. The case for insensitivity is derived from the fact that this location, the suicide forest, is still a current reality. Many people have taken their lives within that area, and the locals are viewing this film as Americans finding entertainment from a very morbid curiosity. Simply put, disrespectful.

Probably due to budget constraints. They only had $10 million, and I'll bet most of that went to Natalie Dormer.

Last two I watched were Devil (where 5 people are stuck in an elevator and one of them is the devil) and Moon. Both great.

Probably spot on with that... The majority of the rest was probably dumped into location permits & cgi/fx. Its not clear if there will be any sort of special effects from the trailer, but I assume there will be something.

Don't think I have ever heard of Moon... But Devil is a good movie. Another of his movies that displays M Night Shyamalan's clever genius.

#¤%& Face! Change you goddamn avator!

I know it is funny but it is distirbing and makes me slightly nauseous every time I see it!

I guess it is pretty appropriate for a Horror discussion thread though.

Lol, I agree. Big difference between movie and real-life horror. ;)

Lost a bet to @HaroldSeattle ... He's probably enjoying seeing how much I've been having to explain this lol

He tried to let me off the hook, but I decided to own up.

Oh, that's too funny! :pound:

Why Kaeps, may I ask?

Good job, @HaroldSeattle ! :thumb:
Not sure how we got on the subject... It was during the preseason (possibly before during the offseason) and we were discussing the 49ers dumpster fire offseason. Pretty sure I told him that I didn't think the 9ers would get more wins than the Browns in 2015. lol Shame on me for having any sort of optimism for the godforsaken Browns. They were coming off a somewhat promising 7-9 campaign in 2014 so I thought it was an easy bet. Especially when you consider how bad the 9ers looked heading into the season.

That led way to the proposal that if I won he had to sport a Manziel avy, and I'd have to sport Kaep if I lost. Winner's choice on the pic.

Actually not that crazy of a bet. If the Browns had had any sort of a decent head coach, you might've won easily.

Haha gotta tell ya, I'd rather sport Manziel's avi. At least it's not one of Kaeps flexing his bicep. ;)

Not sure you would be sayin that if you saw the avy I had picked out for him...
