You're right. But, so are the posters who noted that he hasn't exactly been sought after for the last two years, either.

I don't believe that the fact a high profile school or NFL head coaching job was offered to him the past two years makes it any less of a great hire as a D coordinator. The guy has strong Jersey and South Florida ties and has had success at the college level.

By the way, me arguing that Schiano is a good hire doesn't mean I think that Michigan's wasn't.

Schiano has been living off that fluke year and that fluke win against a vastly superior Louisville team for almost a decade now.

That is foolish to think no team wanted him. Maybe no team he wanted to coach wanted him but he man could have gotten a job. If you are going to say anything negative about the hire it would be he is using Ohio State as an obvious stepping stone and we will most likely be looking for a new DC in a couple seasons if the defense plays at a high level. Otherwise, it was a great hire and you are just looking at it through Maize and Blue colored glasses.

Dude don't even address it. Anyone who thinks Schiano is a bad hire just started watching football four years ago. He's objectively a great hire, if for no other than his recruiting connections to New Jersey. Save for the fact that he's the reason Rutgers is in the B1G and has been football competent for a decade...

...and he was a candidate for the Michigan job post Carr. He would have done better than Rich Fraud and Fred Flintstone that's for damn sure.

I agree. Schiano will be invaluable to Meyer. I didn't think you were saying that Michigan's new DC wasn't a good hire.

Good hire. Maybe a little long in the tooth but he appears to be a college coordinator lifer. Everything I read reminds me of Mattison without the NFL pedigree.

Coordinators are primary recruiters. I wonder how Brown will recruit?

As for Schiano I think he was brought in to OSU because he can recruit. I never thought his defenses were all that great but he will try to loosen up UofM's strangle hold on New Jersey.
Take a look at his defenses at Miami. Granted it was two years, but they were 12th and 5th in the NCAA in scoring under him. He was also a defensive coach on those elite Penn State teams of the early 90s when they averaged 10 wins a season. The guy knows defense, that's for sure. Plus he has Fickell on his staff, who has helped guide this defense for the past few years and turned them into one of the most elite defenses in the nation this year. Schiano was a perfect hire, even if it's only for 2-3 years.

I'm sure he could have gotten a job -- at some place like Eastern Kentucky -- but the only reason he landed as a coordinator of a major program is because he's buddy buddy with Urban. I don't believe Schiano is either a good head coach or great coordinator. He's an average one at best.

Any of you 3 idiots want to actually try to contribute?

Yes he was good at keeping kids in the home state. But one year. that's it.

You are right about one thing in your post..."the only reason he landed as a coordinator of a major program is because he's buddy buddy with Urban."...but not for the reason you think. I doubt too many other p,eople could have landed Schiano as a coordinator since he has only interviewed for head coaching jobs prior to this...getting 3 mil a year to not coach lets you afford to be picky. Saying Schiano is not a good head coach is laughable, the man is the main reason Rutgers is in the B1G. He might not have been a good NFL head coach, but that doesn't erase the 15 years prior.

He and Don Brown are both good hires, let's move on to something worth debating.

He's certainly better and more accomplished than Don Brown.

He had one good year at rutgers, with that super flukey win over UL and he's living off that with his rep.
Wow, you're a special kind of retarded, aren't you?

Keep providing no value. Because you can't.

Please get a clue dude.
His amazing job at Rutgers literally gained them access to the B1G. He won the first 5 bowl games in Rutgers history. He was also an elite DC at Miami before going to Rutgers.

Im not saying he's a bad coordinator hire.

But the fact that you're calling 73-68 an "amazing" job kinda proves my point. He's one fluke season away from sub .500 status.
