Maybe I'm biased but I think that if Manny Machado keeps improving like he has, he'll have a good chance at making the HoF.

He's a great player, for sure, but I don't think his knees will allow him to amass the credentials for the HOF.

No chance- David Ortiz- Honestly, I don't get why people think he deserves it... You realize he only has 4 seasons of an OPS over 1000... and one of those 4 seasons he played less than 100 games... And He was never better than 3rd in slugging percentage... For someone who ONLY played offense, he should have better offensive numbers...

:markmay:

@Rock Strongo says Ortiz is not only a lock for the HOF, but a clear first ballot HOFer. . .

Molina is closer than Mauer... Molina is one of the best defensive catchers of all time... Defense matters at the catcher position... And he was a good enough bat...

I'm not sure it means anything in terms of Mauer's HOF chances, but I've always been impressed with the fact that only six catchers in the history of baseball have ever won batting titles, and Joe Mauer is three of them.

Homer's say the damndest things... I Have said Greg Bird will make the HOF... Me and rock have the same chances to be correct there...

Yeah, I don't think there's any chance of him being a 1st ballot guy. I'm not sure I give him a 50/50 chance on making the hall at all.

He'd be the first full-time DH to make it, which I think he may have the career to break that barrier, but then he's also a PED guy. So the voters are going to have to significantly change their opinions on juicers for him to make it in.

Pudge was better defensively than Molina and even he I would say is borderline without his offensive exploits. Molina had a hot bat for 3 years in his late 20's/early 30's (which isn't at all suspect...), the rest of the time he's barely been replacement level. That's not HOF to me.

Pudge is a clear HOFer IMO... at least once the suspected steroid users get in...

Is it me, or does this thread kinda show how underrated Carlos Beltran's career is?

By the end of 2016, he could potentially end up with 1500 runs, 2500 hits, 400 HR, 1500 RBI to go along with 300+ steals, an OPS+ north of 120 and a career WAR around 70.

I give Ortiz a 0 percent chance.... Lets face it he really is not that good... He only lead baseball in HRs once, RBIs twice, and OBP once... For a player who ALL he did was hit, don't you think these should happen a little more often???

How can you list Trout and Harper without listing Posey?

Very under-rated... He still no HOFer in my book... Honestly, I have trouble analyzing the speed/power guys... I kind of disregard the speed when a player hits 30+ HRs... and if you take the speed away from Beltran he is still a very good player, but really nothing too special...

Pujols- absolute lock...

Arod- Will be a lock if and when they allow steroid players in

Ichiro- only a lock because he is Japanese

Beltre- Arguably the best defensive 3B of all time, has enough good offensive seasons to be a lock.

Miggy- not quite a lock yet IMO, but very close... Should make the HOF though

those are the only 4 offensive players I think will make the Hof...

Outside chances for Joey Votto, Joe Mauer, Yadier Molina

On pace- Trout, Posey, Harper, McCutchen, Goldshmidt

No chance- David Ortiz- Honestly, I don't get why people think he deserves it... You realize he only has 4 seasons of an OPS over 1000... and one of those 4 seasons he played less than 100 games... as for pitchers

Kershaw is a lock
Felix- will probably get in
Joe Nathan and Papelbon are very close wont be surprised if either make it

So, Arod is a lock and Papi has no chance? I guess you don't think postseason accomplishments count for much?

Agreed. Way too early to think "HOF" for a guy like that anyway. Among the young guys, Trout, Harper, Goldschmidt and Stanton are at the top of the list for now. Guys like McCutchen, Posey, Bumgarner and Rizzo are looking good, too.

David Wright is on the right track, as well. Beltran is in the fence.

Machado had both knees repaired before he was 22. That doesn't bode well for his longevity.

Good add of Wright. I am not sure he is there yet (or will be) but definitely worth discussion.

I dont get the argument to place Goldy or Stanton ahead of Posey at this point. Posey has 3 rings, 3 SS, a batting title, a MVP and a ROY. Goldy and Stanton combined have 2 GG and 3 SS. The resumes simply do not compare.

I understand Goldy, but I don't really understand Stanton... He is one of those that we just want to see him play that we over-rate him to what we think he SHOULD be doing...

Because Posey will play the majority of his career at 1B and needs to be compared to other 1st basemen, which I don't think his numbers will stack up. If he plays the majority of his career at C, then his numbers will be fine and he probably will be a HOFer
