What do you consider to be a blue blood program?

Probably a dumb question, but that's never stopped me before, but what is your criteria to consider a program to be a blue blood?

Are teams like Texas A&M and Georgia considered blue bloods? Or is it just the all time elites like Oklahoma, USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Nebraska, Michigan, etc? Is it teams that have had success all throughout their history, or are the teams that have had a lot of success in the last few decades, but a long history of mediocrity before then included as well, teams like Miami?

Of the 65 P5 teams(including ND) how many of them are considered blue bloods?

I would say Florida State and Miami count as blue bloods just because of the long line of successful players they have had. That's another way you can look at it. NFL player success.

Top 15 (or so) all-time wins.

Some are more consistent than others, but any one of those Top 15 can put together good streaks.

I mostly consider the ones who have had a history combined with recent success.

USC, OU, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, & Alabama are the elite blue bloods IMO.

Those I used to consider but are on the way out are PSU and Nebraska.

Those newer and on the cusp of being in are Florida and FSU

Those are the true blue bloods. Teams just a notch below are Penn State, Florida State, Stanford, Miami, Michigan State, Florida, Nebraska and LSU.

Oregon was making a move but we'll see. Oklahoma State is another one trying to move up the pecking order. Baylor, TCU, Iowa, Clemson, North Carolina, Auburn, etc. are a ways from being top notch yet but they are all doing extremely well over the past few years.

Florida State had the greatest dynasty run in the history of sports. Alabama might start to rival it soon, but pretty damn sure Florida State is an elite program.

Blue blood means old. You have to start there.

Plus, blue blood programs are the destination coaching jobs.

Could an fsu hc be plucked to hc at usc? Yes.
Other way around? No.

*yes, there is one exception example, and we all know it. Exceptions don't make a rule.

They went 9-1-1 in their first year of existence. They've never had a losing season in their ENTIRE history. If we're going to use serious criteria besides National titles, Florida State is easily the greatest college program. Never had a single season outside of the top 25 either.

Eh, for me I have a more liberal sense of the term, probably just in order to keep UGA in there.

For me, I would call the following teams blue bloods:

Georgia
Florida
Tennessee
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
A&M
FSU
Miami
Georgia Tech
Clemson
Notre Dame
Penn State
Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Nebraska
USC
UCLA
Washington
Texas
Oklahoma

Definitely not saying I'm right, but I do freely admit that I'm a homer.

Nothing wrong with that. I guess blue blood can have a different definition than elite. If it gets Georgia Tech in there, I'll take it. Though we've been an average program over the last 20 years.

FSU is a great program, but hasn't been around long enough to be a Blue Blood. Are they an elite program, hell yes.

Their first season was in 1964? Does a blue blood have to be 100 years old? Come on man. You can't be serious. Yeah they didn't play every season between the 60s and 70s, but I won't discredit them. They are the model of consistency.
