Don't think you can blame Rex for a trade. Isn't that the GM?
yup. rex has personell input, he traded cassel.

Rex Ryan: Cassel trade all about EJ

Bills head coach Rex Ryan faced a lot of questions Wednesday about the team trading Matt Cassel. No matter how many times or ways the same question seemed to be asked, Ryan made it clear the trade was made because the team feels very comfortable with EJ Manuel as the primary backup to Tyrod Taylor going forward.

“How we feel about EJ Manuel was why a move like this would be made,” Ryan said. “It wasn’t about that we felt bad about Matt Cassel. I wanna make sure that we’re clear on that. Matt did a tremendous job here but as we went through the process, and you guys saw it just like I saw it, I think EJ Manuel really raised his game. I think he did a tremendous job when given an opportunity. I thought he did extremely well, he’s a big guy that’s got physical gifts and he’s…you know I think he’s got a chance to be a good quarterback in this league.”

Manuel and Cassel both lost out to Taylor for the starting QB position after all three entered training camp with what Ryan said was an equal chance to earn the job.

“We feel really good about our starting quarterback in Tyrod Taylor,” Ryan added. “So this was something done about, you know what this is gonna be the best thing for our football team moving forward because we think that EJ’s gonna keep ascending. He has a better chance of doing that as a number two, than a number three quarterback.”

Cassel was dealt to the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday along with a seventh-round draft pick in 2017 for a fifth-round choice that year. Ryan said the trade was made not only for this season, but with an eye on the future.

There is NOTHING in there from a player that even alludes to his having lost the team.

In his defense, he's is completely a player's coach and guys usually LOVE playing on his teams.

On the flip side, the reason some guys like playing on his teams so much is because there just isn't as much accountability as there is with other coaches like Coughlin or Tomlin.

I think that lack of accountability/discipline is way worse than him "losing the players."

Like they always say, "Heads might roll often, but they don't roll very far."

Once you're a pro coach, you stay a pro coach -- unless you're Rich Kotite-level bad.

I mean, pro coaches almost never even revert back to being coordinators, or if they do it isn't for very long until the next HC job opens up in Suckerville.
like josh mcdaniels or lovie smith?

or the others that went from coordinator to coach and back again?

I guess I have been insulated from this in the Belichick years. I haven't heard that once in the 15 years he's been coach. It took Rex merely a month.

having watched rex coach in this division with 2 teams now, his best job was when they went 8-8 with a shit roster. i tip my hat to that. i can also spot when hes lost a team, and he has or is losing them fast.

the bills are 3-3 and they literally score 1 more point than they give up. the teams frustrated on both sides of the ball.

This may be true, but it's hard to indict him for trading Matt Fucking Cassel, as if he's the piece they are missing now.

no, but when your shitty starter goes down (he was playing way over his head, we all know that) and you trade your experienced backup to rely on a busted draft pick...thats a problem.

It's almost hard to believe that the Pats were an UNDERDOG at Buffalo a mere month ago! That same game today? Pats are an 8 point favorite in BUF. That's the Rex Ryan hype machine in full effect!

Actually Watkins beat them too it last week (which doesn't help my side of the discussion)...But Rex will just tell you he wants guys to speak their mind, etc.

This is NOT a healthy situation, though. If the players don't respect the coach enough to keep that shit "in-house" then how can you disagree that he's lost his team?

Just like 60% of the NFL head coaches...they are all around the .500 or below range, yet they continue to get jobs once they get fired.

Recycled league.

Rex doesnt believe a QB is important

Slide an elite QB onto a Rex Ryan coached team, and he would be labeled a genius

Which would also be wrong

His track record may not be that good but yet other NFL teams still want to hire him

To be shitty at your job yet always in demand is a pretty good gig if you ask me.
Maybe he should be a weatherman.
