Those unblocked guys on a straight drop back are just the lack of a RT situation being brought to light.
In the Denver and AZ game neither Waddle or Lucas could kick slide fast enough to pass-pro. Von Miller absolutely owned the RT, when uncovered.
well this right here, I just don't get. Warford at times will slide to the 5 gap and Waddle or Lucas will loop around to 1 gap and Swanny slides over and out to try to neutralize the 3 gap and there's no damn FB to help chip in behind for the oncoming DT or LB in a run block situation. That's just a dumb blocking scheme for an alleged counter run play. That's way too much for either RT to handle, being as slow afoot as they are.
Part of that is the execution problems I speak of. Lombardi has them doing stuff above their skill set. So it's not so much they aren't executing. They've no chance at it. Power would be so much easier for these huge guys. Especially on run blocking plays. Waddle was decent in the 9 games he played in under Linehan. Lucas is a liability regardless of scheme at this point for me.
I'm still not sure if Swanson was blowing calls?

I keep telling everyone that Lucas is a LT. He has not adjusted to the right side. Not sure why. One would think it is harder to go from RT to LT then the other way around.
in all honesty, old Lion, I wanted to see Lucas gets some reps in camp at LT and a lot of them, however, from what I'm seeing from him at RT, he just doesn't have the foot speed to man the LT.
Some guys are just not ambidexterous enough and can only fire off of 1 leg quickly. In other words, they can only play 1 side because of their stance (right leg back versus left leg back). Hard to play RT if you only fire off well with your right leg. JMHO.

We are aware that of the five OL we have, four of them are from zone blocking systems. I'm not sure why everyone thinks that the group we have are power blockers?
I'm almost positive Ferentz ran a primarily Man scheme at Iowa (it showed on film). I'm also positive Swanson's first three years under Booby Petrino were primarily man scheme. Waddle and Lucas both come from Zone scheme. Warford primarily played a man scheme with sprinkles of some zone. Tomlinson was a mix of zone/man.
Tomlinson, Waddle and Lucas all came from primarily spread + zone read option teams.
