Hangman, you strike me as a younger baseball fan. I say that because you remind me of me as a Giants' fan in the 90s and early 00s. After having rooted through those two decades, and then going through the 5 year run of excellence, I've learned to not put too much into a game or a month.

I just had my 39th birthday so I am lived through those decades as well.

What I hate is trading away young talented players for a 2 month rental on a has been player that we are hoping still has enough left to help them make the playoffs. If anything this team has shown me that we need to keep those young players and bring them up and have some faith in them. And if you do make a trade it better be for a franchise changing player. A trade like the one for Jason Schmidt. They did the same with Leake and I love that trade and I hope they resign him asap.

Byrd is an old player who swings hard at everything and strikes out a ton and hopes to run into a homer. He looks fat and out of shape for an outfielder and it would surprise me if he played another year.

We need youth and speed and most of all better starting pitching in the 4th and 5th spot to even have a chance this season.

Also, remember that while we are plagued by injury after injury, none of them look to be season ending, so we could, potentially, be at full strength come playoff time.

Gotta get there first.

But if we do, yes we will be dangerous.

Gotta get out of August behind either playoff spot (division or 2nd WC) by 4 games or less. 2 would feel a lot better. Gonna be tough with all the injuries right in the teeth of August. Pence is so important.

Injuries matter, as 2011 always reminds us.

sure, in hindsight. At the time, I didn't read too many pundit or Sox fans that had a problem with it.
Everyone here was saying it was a bad signing.

But it has turned out 1000X worse than any of us thought.

Sure, here. We collectively thought we'd miss Panda but were glad someone else was taking the 90M+ risk.

But nationally, it was seen as an overpay but a solid add

Byrd in the linup tonight, but still no announcement about Lollis (presumably) getting sent to Sacto.

Byrd is Morse that won't hurt us in the field.

He has been saying that he has wanted to play for the Giants for a few years now. I am not sure you can trust those kinds of quotes, but it is nice to hear, regardless.

I LOVE what Morse said about his 4 hours with the dogs, though. That, alone, makes me want to have him back on the team. Maybe he will be a guy who hooks on with the Giants as a scout or something after his playing days. Maybe he can take Burrell's spot in the scouting ranks (apparently he quit/was fired a while back).

As soon as I posted that, I had a feeling that I was wrong. Please accept my apologies. We are not far apart at all in age. I turned 38 this past April. I understand the prospects for faded veterans disdain. The Giants used to be notorious for those trades. However, a few things have softened me up on that - the Giants seem to do that less often, many of the prospects they've traded didn't pan out (often, it seems, because of injury) and the front office have been giving farm hands more opportunities to make the team. Additionally, Stephen Johnson seemed pretty low on the prospect depth charts. I'd say at least a dozen bullpen prospects were ahead of him - in no particular order - Hall, Law, Osich, Broadway, Okert, Casilla, Mizenko, Rogers, Crick, Gregorio, Rodriguez, Smith, Slania.

What did he say? I haven't seen it.

That's because Heston was sent down for Byrd. Lollis goes down tomorrow when Leake is activated
