I'm pretty surprised there is no decision just yet. I will be very interested to see how long the appeal decision takes for Tom Brady. Seems there is some anti-Hardy/Cowboys bias at play here that is causing the delay.

Hardy certainly does not deserve anyone doing him any favors, and to be honest, if he gets the full 10 game suspension I won't be disappointed at all -- Hardy will have earned every one of those 10 games. Still, the NFL needs to be consistent in these matters and having this decision drag out, no matter which way it lands, certainly shows uneven dealing when it comes to certain parties. Not that this is a surprise in this age of the NFL with Goodell running the show...

I find the entire thing confusing.

In 2014 Hardy was put on suspension that spanned 15 NFL games and continues today but it's called being on the exempt list. But the end result is that your suspended. (with pay) As Hardy was still under suspension (exempt list) he was informed in April that he would be suspended for 10 more games, games he would not be eligible to play in anyway while under the other suspension (exempt list) So while under suspension (exempt list) Hardy filed to appeal the 10 games suspension even though he's not eligible to play in those 10 games while under the other suspension (exempt list)

So we sit here and wait for the result of the appeal of the 10 games suspension. If he wins the appeal nothing changes because he is still suspended (exempt list) If he losses the appeal nothing changes because he is already suspended. (exempt list)

I doubt it takes the NFL four weeks to rule on Brady.

I'm sure John Mara whispered in Goofdell's ear to let Hardy and the Cowboys twist in the wind for a while.

What brady did hurts the nfl more than what hardy supposedly did. Brady probably misses no games. Behind. That ain't cat hairs on the front of godell shirt. Those are kraft hairs

Of course what Brady did technically hurts the NFL more directly, but if a guy went into Times Square and shot up 50 people, that wouldn't directly influence a game or hurt the NFL, but indirectly it would hurt it immensely and certainly would deserve a suspension. Not in any way comparing what Hardy did to that, but the point is that the Policy is meant to enforce more than just issues that take place during games and affect things on the field...

The only ones who care about what Brady did are football fans, what Hardy did is much more of a Black eye to the rest of the country.

Not sure how anyone could justify lumping the two cases together.

It will be interesting to hear the NFL's reasoning for delaying the decision this long. Starting to look like a decision on Brady will be made prior to Hardy.

I wonder if Henderson had a significant cut in mind and RG is against his findings?

Count Cowlishaw as somebody else who thinks the NFL is timing the announcement to minimize the effect.

It does make sense. Would there be such a long delay if the full ban was upheld. You would think the NFL would get that out asap. Show they are coming down hard on these guys. Get some good spin going.
But if the ban was reduced ... there is nothing to show off, no face to save. So you bury the announcement.

But.

Why not Monday morning the 22nd? ,DJ 3 putting from 12 feet to lose the US Open the night before? Last night just hours SCOTUS decision? You just wait for a good time to announce, there is no perfect time.

I do believe they are timing the announcement but I think they are waiting for another cog to line up before they do. No idea what that cog is. (and I don't think it's Brady)

Cowlishaw: Why I think delay on decision of Greg Hardy's appeal should encourage Cowboys fans | Dallas Morning News

Question: What the heck is going on with the Greg Hardy decision?

Tim Cowlishaw: I take this as a good sign for Cowboys fans. The league is trying to figure out when they can announce a reduction in games that will get the least attention. The morning of Fourth of July? Final round of the British Open? Actually, it has to be coming soon, it has been nearly a month.

Friday morning is my guess. That's the next down news cycle. You would think they would have let it go late last week, with all the SCOTUS rulings and terror attacks and escapees being shot.

Let the ruling go late thursday night or friday morning, and hope it all settles by the following Monday.

I Think it's better for Dallas is Brady plays against them. Dallas is a top team and they need the early challenge. You need some tough games during the season to see what you're made of. Plus it's a much better game for the rest of the nation seeing some of the top NFC teams playing one of the top AFC teams.

"John Clayton discusses the hold-up on Cowboys DE Greg Hardy, who is awaiting a decision on his appeal of a 10-game suspension"

"[The NFL is] making sure everything is structured in case there is a federal court appeal. Now there is a better chance that this could go to federal court because as we saw in the Adrian Peterson situation, what was used as the basis of the 10-game suspension was [based] on a rule that came after the incident happened with Greg Hardy. So there is a chance a federal judge may be willing to take that, and I think that's what's holding up any kind of a decision whether to take it from 10 to six, leave it at ten or do something different."

4 games tops, or else there is a lawsuit.

Doesn't seem that Jerry wields as much power as he used to, I hate that. The little weezle in NY and Teflon-Kraft seem to have the dirty pictures of Goodell

Five weeks later, still no Greg Hardy ruling

Apparently, “as soon as practicable” means “if you need five weeks, take five weeks . . . or more!”

The non-deadline deadline in Article 46 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, requiring a ruling on an appeal under the Personal Conduct Policy to be issued by the league’s designated hearing officer “as soon as practicable” has translated into 35 days and counting for Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy.

Hardy faces a 10-game suspension. The NFL Players Association believes that the punishment was imposed under the revised Personal Conduct Policy, even though the behavior at issue occurred under the old policy — which ordinarily would have resulted in a two-game suspension at most for a domestic violence incident.

Harold Henderson devoted seven hours to the matter on May 27. To date, Henderson still hasn’t issued a decision.

The delay in the ruling necessarily shortens Hardy’s window for challenging the case in court. Which in turn increases the chances of Hardy seeking a preliminary injunction that allows him to play while the litigation proceeds. Which means that Hardy could be suiting up for Week One against the Giants.

A ruling could come at any time, including during the looming Fourth of July weekend bad-news dump. Then, the next guy up for an “as soon as practicable” ruling will be Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, whose appeal of a four-game suspension for #DeflateGate falls under the same provision of the CBA.

Anything over 4 would mean more bad publicity for the nfl.
