Royals @ Indians games start at 6:10pm this week. What the fuck's up with that?

I'm not sure I've ever heard of the Indians playing at 6:10.

It does mean I'll leave the office early tomorrow to head to The Jake, so that's cool I guess.

Red Sox an Blue Jays are also listed at 6:10.

Are more people refusing to honor daylight savings time, like Arizona does?

The Indians are trying something new this season, with five weeknight games in April and May being designated with 6:10 p.m. start times. Those games fall on the following dates:

• Monday, April 27 vs. Kansas City
• Tuesday, April 28 vs. Kansas City
• Wednesday, April 29 vs. Kansas City
• Tuesday, May 12 vs. St. Louis
• Wednesday, May 13 vs. St. Louis

Any idea why? Are the Red Sox also in on the experiment? I'm getting uncomfortable.

The Indians' reasoning for the early first pitch is "To avoid potential weather issues. Additionally, families and children who may be attending the games will arrive home an hour earlier," according to a press release.

The new entrance gate near right field will open at 4 p.m. for each game. Other gates will open at 5 p.m.

No problem. I was going to ask you why because a guy at work and I were wondering about that earlier this morning.

Maybe it helps their attendance too?

Could be. I imagine that until summer weather and schools are out, this could boost attendance. I know the local AA team starts a lot of their April and May games in the six o'clock hour, I've assumed for that reason.

The Blue Jays @ Red Sox series is the same way this week.

If I'm going to the game on a "school night," I'd just assume it start at 6 to get me home earlier, but if I'm watching from home, 6 is a little early - particularly on the weekends.

I'm going to the game tomorrow with a good friend who is from Kansas City. Last time he and I went to a game together, the Indians scored about seven runs in the first inning. Somehow I don't think that will happen again tomorrow.

The Phillies are trying to convince the Red Sox to trade for closer Jonathan Papelbon, according to the Boston Globe.

Such a deal could make sense for Boston considering that current closer Koji Uehara has lost a bit of velocity and owns an uncharacterstic 4.15 ERA with two runs and five hits allowed in his last 2 1/3 innings.

Papelbon, on the other hand, has been lights-out. He is 4-fof-4 in save opportunities and had not yielded a run until Sunday. He is also quite familiar with pitching at Fenway, having served as the Red Sox closer from 2006 through 2011. Papelbon is one of only a handful of major league closers that have maintained that role for more than a few years.

Will they throw in Hamels?

I am enjoying the success of the Astros thus far. Their big bats haven't even really heated up yet.

Sox might as well go for the whole deal. Taking on a lot of salary so not sure what the Phils would need in return but at least betts or swihart and maybe both. Probably something like, Swihart, Owens, and one or two other prospects.

I would have a hard time getting to a game that started at 6PM. I have tix for Thursday night; have to rush home from work, pick up my son, scarf down some dinner (no way I'm buying it all at the game), rush out to the ball park, and then take a half hour to get to our seats before my son starts complaining "I'm cold and want an 8-dollar cotton candy or take me home!"
