Take a trip back a couple of years and we have Rutgers and Maryland joining the B1G as the power play of the year. The revenue alone is all that anyone cared about.

Fast forward to last weekend were we see losses by Michigan State at Oregon and Ohio State losing at home to VT and Michigan being drubbed by ND 31 - 0.

Even the winners weren't impressive. Nebraska barely got by McNeese and Ball State. Penn State sneaks past UCF and Akron.

At least Iowa beat their MAC foe. Northwestern and Purdue...not so much.

But now I understand why the B1G selected the cream from the Big East and ACC. Rutgers and Maryland at 2 - 0 are leading the way.

...

I don't expect Oregon to go undefeated. The Pac looks very good this year.

And even if MSU wins out and the committee is looking at Oregon and MSU....

Oregon's win over the Spartans could be the game that decides which team makes the playoffs.

I know the B1G was after the dollar, but they probably should have made a run at some better football schools to strengthen their conference. Missouri has been begging to join the B1G for a long time now, they would've helped a little.

21-3 is sneaking past? Yeah, we struggled to score for awhile but were never in jeopardy. Not to mention UCF returned a damn good defense tht we rolled for over 500 yards. We just need hack to quit forcing throws, he has too much confidence in that arm. Oh, and a run game also. It definitely sucks.

Actually we spanked FAU 55-7 while racking up 784 yards in our first game.... but yes, McNeese and Daniel Sams gave us all we could handle.

Some people squash crappy FCS teams and then laugh at teams that struggle against the top tier FCS schools.

Top tier FCS schools are as good as low-mid lvl p5 schools, in most of the p5 conferences anyway.

True, look at NDSU.
That McNeese team had several high level FBS transfers playing. And I was pretty impressed by their speed, not big but very quick. Really, I felt like the biggest factor was Nebraska shooting themselves in the foot (pick 6, stupid penalties... fucking Cotton, and lack of real depth). If Armstrong doesn't throw that pick 6, I think Nebraska wins by 3 or 4 scores.... but he did and that shows we aren't ready for prime time.

Yep. Whats happening is a lot of FBS transfers because kids want playing time. Then they get overlooked by their FBS opponents and upsets happen, or nearly happen. Don't forget all of these FCS schools go on the road to play their FBS opponents. The top schools in the FCS are a handful, no doubt about it.

NDSU is the obvious example. EWU is no slouch either though. They beat the beavers in corvallis last year, almost beat UW this year and a fw seasons ago in Seattle.

That kid Vernon is legit. Our defense sucks, but still his passes were perfect.

Says the two fans of teams that escaped an fcs team at their own "historic" stadiums.

You guys are blindly justifying teams hat shouldn't be within 3 tds of decent fbs teams.

Let alone former NC teams. Gimme a break.

Sam Houston kept Vernon in check way better than UW. And SH was on the road.

Let's call it what it is. A terrible performance against an fcs. Doesn't mean you will suck all year but that game the Huskies did.

Define decent? I'll take EWU to cover a 3 td spread against anyone in the pac at this pt, except maybe Oregon and USC.

Thats a little more than decent in most peoples eyes.

He is good. Not good enough to run up 52 on PAC defenses.

No excuse for that. I'm sure Pete will use that game as extra motivation to not let it happen again .

I agree, no excuse for it.

It should have been less. I already whined about the penalties we received in the 2nd half after stopping EWU, which gave them new life and damned if they didnt take advantage of it.

We have the athletes. But they are young and inexperienced. It doesnt help when the most experienced player who should be acting like a leader in the secondary has a meltdown and gets benched for the rest of the game.

Work in progress.

I'll take an ugly 2-0 for now. :suds:

Knaw on these bones for awhile...

RISE OF THE FCS
The rise of FCS football: Like so many other things, it's about recruiting - SBNation.com

Eight FCS teams beat FBS teams in Week 1 of the 2013 season, a new record for a single week.

(UW wasn't one of them...)

FCS schools will play role in determining FBS champion
http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com...in-determining-fbs-national-champion/9677037/

Florida coach Will Muschamp shouldn't want to play FCS schools.

Last time Muschamp faced one, he lost.

The FCS isnt what it used to be. Theres another really good article out there that I read the other day, illustrating more wins by the FCS over FBS every year, all of the FBS transfers etc. But I can't seem to locate it.

It's a dangerous thing scheduling FCS elites. Better off going after the mid-majors.

Once Mizzou got into the SEC, that ship sailed IMO.

The additions of MD and Rutgers were just as much to prevent the ACC from controlling the entire east coast as anything else.

Not blindly justifying anything. Did you watch that game? I said before that game was even played that Daniel Sams (being as I'm pretty familiar with him) would give the Husker D fits. TA's pick 6 sent us into panic mode which was compounded by 2 of our starting WRs going down and some shitty play calling. (I still don't understand how you only get your best player the ball 3 times in the 4th quarter). Jake Cotton cost us a touchdown and a huge pass play on penalties that didn't even effect the play. We played and coached bad enough to lose. We should have won by 3-4 scores (on paper), but shit happens.
*Pretending there isn't talent in the FCS is inaccurate.

I think he meant to say Iowa almost losing to Ball State.

Not too make excuses for Iowa because we defintely havent played well but UNI is a top 5 FCS level team which probably equates to a 6 or 7 win FBS team and Ball State won double digit games last year and is solid. Does that mean Iowa shouldnt beat them both by 15+?? Hell no but the reality is that both the teams we beat are probably better than at least 3 or 4 teams in the B10. Maybe more.
