Silas. The NBA draft is in two weeks, give or take a couple of days.

Can we just hire Byron Scott and start prepping for the draft and FA season? Seems like he has been the guy from the start and still is.

A bit of a risky move but Jackson has the respect and credentials on his side and will be given the benefit of the doubt if things start out sour and Fisher also has the respect of players

Should be interesting how the Knicks do this upcoming season

And with Fisher as coach at the very least the Knicks will know how to flop

Yea, I am with the prevailing sentiment on this thread. Forget LeBron and focus on building the franchise with drafted young players that will develop into our own Lebron(s). This is what Dr. Buss did and this is what the Buss family should do now. Draft judiciously and bring one or two FA pieces and build the powerhouse that we are all accustomed to and enjoy watching.

I disagree with the sentiment re: Lebron. Signing Lebron instantly puts the Lakers back in the title mix, especially with the right FA's. He can be paired with Kobe and possibly Pau for a couple of years and then the Lakers can go after a couple of young top FA's to keep things rolling for the future.

The Lakers can't build through the draft (at least not anytime soon) because they don't have much available.

I think that the Lakers should put together the best possible offer for Lebron, but I don't think he takes it, I think he stays in Miami.

Why is everyone so high on going after Kevin Love, but not Lebron?

I'd love it if the lakers signed lebron. I just don't see it happening unfortunately.

Yeah, I don't get the "we don't want Lebron" sentiment. The guy is the best player in the league and will be for the next 5 years or so. I'm no Lebron fan, but I could tolerate him as a Laker (like many of us do with Kobe).

Pair him with Kobe, Pau and the right FA's (some of whom were on the team last year and could be re-signed) and you have a team that can compete for a title. Then when Kobe and Pau retire in a couple of years, use that cap space to add a couple of younger FA's for Lebron to "pass the torch" to.

I agree that he likely doesn't come to the Lakers, but they need to throw their best pitch at him, if for no other reason than to signal to other, future FA's that they are serious about a return to the top of the league.

You're insane if you don't want Lebron. Period. There's just no logical argument.

The coaching wait and see rumors amuse me. Because this has been the plan from the start. Like a day or so after D'Antoni was fired, Mitch and Co said they were going to take their sweet time making a coaching decision and may even wait post draft. So far, its gone exactly how he said. But people are impatient. Any time LA interviews a candidate, its "omg, this guy is now the front runner" until he isn't because they interview another guy who then is the new front runner. The wait and see stuff isn't new. It's just the media repackaging info because we're in a deadzone of news. And since most people have short attention spans, this info from a month ago seems fresh.

Plus, there's really no rush to get a coach anyway. He can't do anything with the players. Team activities don't start till late-Summer/early Fall. Most guys work out individually in the Summer working on their own skills.

If memory serves, when B. Scott took the Cleveland job, he thought he was going to be coaching Lebron. How funny would it be if he finally got to coach him, but as a Laker instead of a Cavalier?

Exactly. I posted a while back that Mitch said they were going to take their time. I think the organization understands that they are at a bit of a crossroads in Lakers history and are trying to make sure that every move is the right one from the coach all the way down to the last man on the roster.

As much as many claim the Lakers are in a bad way, I'm not sure that I completely agree. They have so few players signed that they can literally take the team in any direction that they want and build whatever type of team they want. They just need to make sure they do it right.

Well we will see the resolution of this conundrum fairly soon as the draft approaches in two weeks.
