His handling of personnel has been straight shit. We all recall last year's fiasco, and good call on handling young guys. A guy like Craig Adams or Rob Scuderi can do nothing bad enough to get scratched, but the young guns like Despres, Bennett? Sit 'em. Gotta EARN your way! Except sometimes talent should win out... You PLAY TO WIN THE GAAaaaMME. So, put out your best possible roster.

Didn't Gibbons get scratched in a game recently(either this series or last)? That didn't make much sense either

Well, he was injured, but then basically said in the media that he was ready to go when the coach was ready to put him in. The likely excuse there was that they had won a few games, why mess with a good roster? Which is an awful, awful, superstitious idiotic excuse.

This is from game 2 I think, and it's one tiny clip, but that doesn't scream that there's a good player/coach vibe.

But it's possible that management sides with the coach.

Curious what was behind that. I felt like Crosby was used in an incomplete role against the Jackets. Asked to do more grinding and less flat out speed. Maybe Sid agrees with me?

I don't know enough about Trotz's style to really comment. All I know is that he gets good results from teams with limited talent...and with that in mind, the idea of him having talent to work with is intriguing. Seems that most of the guys on the market are fairly conservative/defensive minded, which is probably a good thing. Need someone who's a bit of a hard ass too. I like Dan the person. He's a happy guy, loves the game, enjoys himself...but sometimes you need the grump to yell at you and get pissy.

Trotz is the anti Dan. He has a good head for the game and can see what the other team is doing strategy wise. He gets a lot out of his bench, even when his cupboard is bare. Not sure what he'd do if he had Pens firepower, but I imagine it would be good things.

Stubborn for sure, and too friendly with the players. No accountability, and he always goes to veteran grinders - like himself - over young guys with potential. Glass in for Bennett? LMAO...

We have "fans" that rather have Talbot in goal right now so I tend to ignore people that show that level of idiocy.

I've seen that, not just here but on Twitter and elsewhere. It cracks me up. Talbot is strong, but holy crap. Lundquist is just flat out ridiculous in games that count. Shades of Grant Fuhr or Billy Smith. Turn up the heat and he just eats it up like Jelly Beans.

And when the heat isn't up, he's still only one of the top five in the game.

Thank you!! As to your last paragraph, you're a former goalie, pretty sure your son plays it as well if I recall correctly? I'm glad you realize how important Hank is to this team and that as good as Talbot may be, he's still just a backup and nowhere near Hank's level!

We live and die with Hank.

While the displeasure here is perhaps apt, maybe it is time to direct some of it at the National Hockey League itself for letting the brutal disgrace of clutch-and-grab hockey come back. Crosby gets two scoring chances in the last two games and somehow does not draw the half dozen penalties he should have drawn. Malkin looked like he was skating with a Ranger riding piggyback. This series looked disturbingly like the one the Penguins lost to the Florida Panthers in 1996.

The NHL has been running this bait-and-switch at us for years, pushing offense and excitement during the regular season, then letting the playoffs be trashed by grinders who can't compete without skating over the edge of the rules. So fire everyone locally, and shake the team up, but save some scorn for Gary Bettman. He fines Henryk Lundqvist for spraying water on Crosby, but does nothing about Marc Staal's attack with a hockey stick.

After all, the playoffs loaded up with the likes of Brad Marchand are so pleasant to watch.
