I just we had the ability to shut the door when up 3-0. Obviously MAF takes blame but the story doesn't end there. The defense is a joke & has been a joke for years now, only now it's hit a new low. Whether we win this series or not it doesn't matter IMO. We 're not going to win the Cup with this team, so why mess up our draft position?
ya you know what yzerman will do with are draft pick in round one ? pick another forward yep he will. I don't know what the penguins do maybe get in the market for alex edler this summer ?

We will probably draft another dman which we will never play & trade him away for a half season rental somewhere down the road.

Hmm, maybe the Bolts & Pens should trade GM's?

lol na stevie yzerman signed here for 5 more seasons! I have faith he will find the right defenseman but palat would be great for crosby if your gm drafted him . Stevie yzerman has us set for offense and goaltending for the next 8 years. I just don't know what his plan is for defense ? Id would trade bret connolly to you guys for Simon Despres if he can hit can he ?

Seems like you guys got and abundance of young forwards while we got an abundance of young dmen, I think the Bolts & Pens need to start making trades with each other.

Yeah they seem like they would make ideal trading partners. I could understand not wanting to make major trades with divisional rivals but teams trade within the conference often.

MAF crumbles. Sid and Geno don't score. Neal and Letang take stupid penalties. Good teams' players take turns stepping up in big situations during the playoffs. The Pens? They take turns stepping down in big games. What a sad, sorry bunch. I don't think I saw Sid within 25 feet of the net once last night. i just want this to be over so the house cleaning can begin.

I would really like nothing better than for this trend to continue towards next season so that my dream of landing Connor McDavid becomes a reality.

Mario, Jagz, Geno, Sid, & CMCD = evolution

I agree, MAF doesn't steal games for ur like elite goalies; in fact, we often win in spite of him. But then again, no goalie will succeed in our system, where defense is non existent. Really pathetic loss tonight. I almost hope we lose this series for the sake of draft position.

I agree, MAF was under siege for most of the game, and was on pace to be #1 star before the goals.

After some reflection, I don't feel as worried about MAF as I do the rest of the team. I know they 'went in a shell' tactically, but you can go in a shell and still not get doubled up in shots and take 4 penalties in a period. Sid was just terrible last night too many giveaways for a player of his caliber, Malkin refused to shoot (0 shots on goal), and he kept passing up opportunities.

That's really a terrific way to put it.

Yeah, I felt bad for MAF, he'll get the blame for those 2 goals at the end, but the team did everything possible to give away that game once they went up 3-0. This team lacks defense, depth, heart, and focus. There's really nothing to get excited about right now, this team isn't going anywhere playing like this.

I'm thinking they should just start trapping, that's why Martin is here right. They trapped at the end of regulation, and the lucky bounce notwithstanding, the Blue Jackets didn't get much.

Considering the Pens are a small, quick team. Grinding it out, probably isn't possible for them against a superior 'Grind it out' team in CLB, who has a huge weight advantage on the Pens.

Trap, then aggressively counterattack. You don't have to trap like NJ, and recycle the puck constantly to the d and start a controlled breakout. Trap the neutral zone, turn it over, and start using speed in transition. In fact, there is no reason they shouldn't have been playing that way the entire season.

That's probably a good idea, IDK if we have the heads up dmen to get away with that tho, our dmen need to be more reliable/responsible in order for a trapping scheme to work. Otherwise we'll give up odd man breaks.

I'm more worried about the forwards, the trap is pretty easy on the dmen as far as responsibilities in the neutral zone, they are protected by a layer of forwards, they just need to keep a good gap, and be ready for a dump in.

I say we should try it but I don't have high hopes. I don't think the makeup of this team could execute any defensive strategy according to plan.

Well, I'd be more worried Dan would let some players slide and not actually commit to it for an entire game.

this failure is all about the inept ability for Skid and Geno to rise to the occasion. Bunch of Prima Donnas who have no heart, desire or will to win. They are wilting when it matters most and we saw this coming during the season and playoffs last year. Its now expected that Skid oesn't score in the playoffs and can't step up like a real star and leader.
